Look for Elliptical Thinking to be posted this Friday. Since Lazer Blazer hasn't posted a sequel to Archimedes Spiral, I thought it was time for another in the genre.

So polish up your trigonometry and algebra skills.

This looks like an interesting cache but my trig and algebra skills won't polish- I'd need to start with a stiff wire brush. But, in keeping with the season, I got out my roll of black yarn and my big orange crayon and started on a graphical solution last night.

Surprisingly, when I had a solution for the mystery point, the computed ray length for it and the ray length for the given point differed by only 17 meters so I thought I'd go out and have a look for this one today.

Made the trek over to KVOM territory bright and early this morning and the GPS led me to a wide open area that is probably deserted during the week. Not on an early Saturday morning though; the place was crawling with mugglers of all ages. I checked a few spot away from the crowds but looks like I'll need to return on a week day.

Still, it's an interesting mystery cache and FTF honors are still there for whoever can solve it and get there first.

Owl emailed me this morning with his coords, and it as surprising how close he got with his string lightbulb I think he had had spent more time looking he would have found it.

Trez, better get that string out if you want that FTF Fool Laugh

It's NOT a string. It is fine wool yarn from a black sheep. That doesn't abraid the wax on my big orange crayon when I'm drawing those eclipse thingys.

I had my string out there late Saturday afternoon. Apparently it had me in the same area as Owl1959, and about 200 feet from the cache. I'll return for another look, but in the meantime Tin Sparrow swooped in to snag the first find.

Good job!

I used thread and push pins, but had constant problems with the thread snagging in the pines....

I had to temporarily disable this cache, as someone has pilfered the container. So much for hiding "in plain sight."

I will replace it in the near future with something more secure. In the meantime I won't change the problem. There is a place less than 50' away I have my eye on.

Bummer about the container being taken. That was a nice one. Then again, if it had been in the "place less than 50' away" originally I would have been first to find. Wink

Cache is active again, and no longer a members-only cache. It has been displaced 20' east, but that should have no affect on the solution or the find.
