In celebration of my recent 100th cache find King , I have placed 3 caches. I am still waiting for approval, but I do not foresee any problems. I waited until late Sunday evening to submit the caches and make this post. I figured that would be the best time to chum the waters and wait for the Geocaching Sharks to start circling. Eek I hope you enjoy hunting them, as much as I enjoyed placing them.

This may entice me back to the NW side of Atlanta.

I was busy this weekend too, doing trail cleanup and cache maintenance at my two MOG caches and putting a new one out nearby. Sorry about the borderline commercial content on this one, but I felt I owed them a bit of a plug for allowing it.

A T5 cache with "river" in the name? It's gotta be a hydro, but I can't see it yet! Oh, the pain!

(Actually, I might not even have my boat with me next trip [gasp!], which only compounds it. Wink)

Now you can see it! It's got "Cave" in the name too. Is a muddy cave close enough to "hydro" for you??

The cave got it's name because of its proximity to the White River. I used Clayjar's Rating System and it gave me a T-5. It may actually be more of a 4 or 4.5, but since it IS a CAVE I figured I would stick with the 5 rating. I'll wait and see what the first finders say, if they make it sound easy I'll lower the terrain rating.

If it requires special equipment, it is a 5, some hydro caches, which by their nature require special equipment (a boat) and are a 5, are in truth easier than 2's provided you have a boat. But they require the special equipment and so are a 5.

It definitely requires a headlamp or flashlight, so I guess that's considered Special Equipment. The T-5 rating stands. As soons as someone finds the cache without a light source, I'll change the rating. Fool Laugh

Can it be done by boat only?

Or is asking cheating?

Ran over to REI on lunch break yesterday and bumped into Trez003 inside. He was just leaving to do the math and I was just getting there to recon the store, so told him I might catch up with him on the hunt. We teamed up to do the final search. Trez found it after I put my hand on it 5 minutes earlier. We thought we were first, but Yo-Yo Man beat us by 2 hours. Clever concealment! Blends right in to the surroundings, and that's all I can say. Good luck!

I went to the (GCEFC5) white river cave cache today. I didn't carry a GPS because I knew the cave and it would be useless in side as the cache page tells you.
The cache is in great shape, but
The log had already been signed by a non-cacher.
I have seen that before when the cache page has enough directions, hints, and or clues to find without a GPS. A lot of folks know about caching now that don't have GPSrs , and they watch for caches near-by and try to find them by the clues.
High School Kids that have a lot of time on there hands will do this.

I believe a cache of this nature should be a member only cache. That would cut down on the non-cacher finding it and cut down on the odds of it getting gone.

Just my thoughts.
What do ya'll think?
:eek

Actually the person who found the cache was my uncle (Packer). He is fairly new to Geocaching, but he is a geocacher. I asked him to help me work out any kinks in my directions. Since I had never placed a cache like this before, I wanted someone to use as guinea pig.

However, if other folks feel the same way about it, I have no problems with making this a members-only cache.

I look forward to your comments.

Do all the parts have reasonable access to the lake?

I would say, Yes. Clues and cache are all within ~50yds. of the water.

If you have keen eye sight, you might not have to get out of the boat for the clues. Cool 4
