Those who have attended prior North Georgia Offroad Geocaching Events have had a good time out in the woods. For early 2007, I am thinking about the two following possibilities:

1) Black Moose, a private offroad park on several hundred acres in Dawson county. This location offers mostly moderate trails and hill climbs, with some ruts/mud/off-camber sections. There are also a couple of more difficult obstacles for the better equipped rigs. There is also a picnic pavilion. Any stock 4wd high-clearance vehicle or ATVs can use these trails. We would need at least 10 vehicles to sign up, and there is a fee (probably $10-15 per vehicle) to use the facility. Users are required to sign a liability waiver.

2) Beasely Knob ORV area, near Blairsville. This area is in the Chattahoochee NF and is closed during the winter. The trails require a 4wd vehicle with high clearance and front tow points or a winch. A stock Jeep Wrangler would be fine. There are steep sections, ruts, and a few ledges. This area requires a $5/vehicle fee. The trails are primarily clay and become treacherous when wet; therefore, the area closes during and after rainstorms until it dries out.

There are no caches currently here, and my thought would be establish some during the ride after the meeting. We would request participants to bring cache containers/log books/trade items, and the caches would be hidden at various spots along the trails.

Opinions on these two ideas are welcome.

I've been to Beasley Knob. There are some easy trails and some tough ones. It's a cool place.

If it's in the Chattahoochee National Forest it would be subject to the USFS rules for caches placed there: container marked with GCxxxx number, spaced at least ½ mile apart, etc.

I've always wanted to go to a NGORGE event... If somebody has the extra space, I'd like to be a passenger. Sounds like a lot of fun.

(I'm getting a new truck next year sometime, but it sounds like even it would have a hard time on this one. Crying No jeep in my future.)

Either site sound like an NGORGEing day well spent. If the eight remaining planets all align, work doesn't call, the weather cooperates and I get permission from Maggie, I can be there most any chosen weekend.

It looks like a Black Moose event in February will be possible. I am talking to the owner about dates.

I wouldn't mind trying to see how my FJ Cruiser will perform under any condition like the two mentioned, though the milder of the two would be more to my liking (new fenders at the moment). Anyone brave enough is welcome to tag along provided I can make the arrangements to be there.

Cache, responsibly.....

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

Sure enough, if I go. I might need some off-roading advice anyway. Are you scared yet?

I did a ride at Black Moose the week before Christmas. It is considerably easier than Beasely, with the only real challenges being some steepish hills, a few rocks, and narrow trails through the trees. The few hard spots have bypasses.

I will post a February or early March event date once I can confirm with the owner.

There is a $30/vehicle charge to ride there. However, since it's in Dawsonville, most people will save considerably on gas as opposed to going to Blairsville or Tellico.

JB, first of all, what kind of word in "confliction"? But, actually I like it since my family makes up words all the time that are meant to sound like what it is. My favorite is "confungulation". Definition: Anything situation that is messed up beyond belief, and for which repair of is not especially optimistic.

I have named my new toy the geocruiser, as yes you can go along or just drive your own mobile while laugh at my timidness as I try to protect the poor baby - however, I am realistic and know it has to suffer a scratch or dent eventualy. Though that is not a disclaimer that I will not curse profusely if that should happen the first couple of times. cursing

Hopefully, I can go though.

I have been out of the country for the past week (scored two caches in Nicaragua!)

I'll try to set up a date soon.

I've been working on my Tacoma so it will be ready for the next event. My Tundra is not setup for this stuff as we found out at the last event. It's setup as a RV.
What is the latest for this event? Date?

I too am looking forward to this.
IF I can work it out.
I have my Pathfinder running again, though it's bone stock.
I used to wheel all the time when I lived in Chattanooga, but have not been since moving to Atl area.

I am going to be out of the country for 2 months starting April 20. That doesn't mean someone else can't organize a ride.

Otherwise I'll try to organize one in June or July.
