A new micro near a free wireless internet coffee shop just off I-85 south of I-285.

WiFi - ChocoLate Coffee

I'm also gonna try to provide a GPX file on the cache page of other free legal WiFi hotspots in the Atlanta metro. If you know of any free legal (owner intends people to use it) spots in the Atlanta mentro, send them to me and I'll get them added to the GPX file.

You can add to your list Woody's BBQ at 1820 Jonesboro Road, McDonough (across from the Home Depot). They have free wifi and have signs posted encouraging folks to use it.

FWIW, there are several caches within a 10 mile radius . . .

Well, now you've done it. You forced me to go to the place and have BBQ for lunch. I hate it when that happens!

I've not used the wifi at Woody's but only because I presently don't own anything that uses wifi. However, they do advertise it, see picture below. Coords are: 33 27.954N 84 12.936W

Good enough verification for me.
I'll add it to the webpage in the near future.

Thanks Yoyo Man.

Those are all good for planning out spots to validate.
If anyone validates any of them, please post the coords, whether registration is required, and overall signal strength.

We've gotten about 8 on the Northeast side of town and anyone on the Northwest who can validate some spots would greatly help in the effort to populate the GPX file for cachers to use when out and about.

Thanks,
Kenneth

Actually....the restaurant where Slay placed her MicroBrew cache has WiFi at the main bar. I don't know if it's free, but I can find out by the end of the day!

Hi! I came across this site rather by chance, but I thought I should add to your list. Woody's is also in Snellville and Conyers, in addition to the one in McDonough. I work at the Snellville locale as a server, and people come in all the time with their laptops. Of course, many come in and ask "What's Wifi?!?" Some people aren't too bright. But it's fast and totally free to use it. Just make sure you're not just taking up a table for 3 hrs having only ordered a Coke. It's happened. 3210 Main Street East, Snellville 30078. 770-972-3188 is our #. Main Street East & West is Hwy 78, btw.
Hope to see you all at Woody's!

Kenneth, I think you need to design a multicache that requires you to go into a series of WiFi hot spots to gather clues and log on there to find the next stage. Just don't make me go to every Krystal or I'll be too sick to continue. Wink

Or better than a Multi-cache, put a cache at each location you know has a free Wi-Fi bubble. It would be a great theme and have lots of smileys to offer.

dramatikpanther,

I'm glad that you posted the info, but as part of the approval of the cache I promised to only add sites that I or someone has verified and has the coordinates.
Geocaching and GGA do not really want to use caches for advertising/commercial purposes so unless one of our cachers visits your location and verifies the WIFI is there and give us coords, I'd rather not add them to the information on file.

I see from my logs on the cache page that AndymanD confirmed a Woody's in Loganville.
Maybe in the future someone will make it by the others to verify.

Thanks,
Kenneth

gridlox,

I've known about the Krystal locations and we have the Indian-Trail location in Lilburn in the GPX file.
Funny that such a low-price fastfood joint has wifi, but I have used it and it works great.

If anyone confirms a site has WiFI, grab the coords and let me know or post it to the Wifi Chocolate cache page.

Thanks for sharing.

I thought about that, but didn't think too many people would have laptops or other WiFi and I wouldn't get many hits.

Of course I could make another cache that starts with info in the micro allowing you to move along if you use the WiFi. I'd have to do some sort of capture of the IP address they get the next info from or post to confirm they logged in there to proceed.

Hmmm....I'll have to think about it.
Right now I'm sick of computers/internet.
Our internet connection at work has had problems on and off since Sunday night.
BellSouth DIA support centers are terrible.
They either sat on our ticket or closed it twice without it being fixed.
I'd rather take a day off and go cache or wet a line.

Kenneth

Arggghh! I'm not a fan of maintaining alot of urban micros, especially for one multi.
Even though Convergence was fun and won an Outstanding Cache award, many stages and long distances apart is a maintenance nightmare. I did learn alot though and worked on making the stages more stable.

What I'd really like is to see some more people locate other legal WiFi spots to publish...especially on the NorthWest side of Atlanta/Marietta.
If the GPX file can get populated enough, visitors to Atlanta could really use it to log caches and check email....even better, all use Atlantan's could too.

Going out Friday to do some recon on some future hides, so we'll swing by the one here in Rome and grab the co-ords to make it OFFICIAL! Thumbs Up

I've toted my laptop along with me on a few occasions, and have booted it up in a few likely areas that I thought might have free, legal* access. Haven't encountered that many, surprisingly.

Two that I do know of:

- Jersey Mike's, N 33 50.312, W 84 28.886, just inside 285 on Atlanta Road.

- Joey's, N 33 50.441, W 84 31.178, right off the East/West Connector at Highlands Ridge.

I just plotted those two via USA Photomaps, but I've been there and know they have it. Coords should get you within 50 feet, close enough to see the establishments.)

I don't frequent coffee joints that often, so I've never even tried. I'll try to carry the laptop around more often and power it up.

* - This is the keyword for me. I've found *MANY* hotspots that are in the grey area of legality - users/businesses who don't know how to enable security. I might have even used one or two, but I'm not telling.
