This isn't technically an "advanced" placement notice, but I figured this was the best place to post this. I added the following note to my "Fargo North, Decoder" cache today:
STATUS REPORT 6-20-05 Visited the cache today. Container and contents in good condition – completely undisturbed. Logbook is still empty. As we rapidly approach the two-month mark here at Fargo North Central Control with nary a smiley in sight, I’ve made an executive decision: I’m upping the stakes! In order to enhance interest level, motivation, local buzz, stress, membership in the We-Hate-KBI-Club, etc., I’ve added two new FTF items to the cache. Now, in addition to: - The standard KBI First Finder Certificate (suitable for framing or training puppy dogs), The eventual first finder will also discover waiting for them: - A crisp, new, wallet-size image of Henry Fonda! (Or maybe it’s Andrew Jackson? I can never tell.) That’s right – a $20 bill! - An official 2005 White Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4X4 Travel Bug! (Provided via generous compliments of Seńor Trez003, who feels bad that my cache has lain undisturbed for so long). (And no, Trez doesn’t yet know where the cache is either, so don’t pester him.) Currently, only three people (apparently) know the true coordinates of the cache: Me, my venerable, honorable approver, and my recently outed (heh) buddy, The Cow Spots (don’t bother, he ain’t sayin’ either). (He is, of course, eligible for the above listed FTF booty if he wants to come to Georgia and collect it!) Believe me, it has taken a LOT of self-control on my part these past many weeks not to post any hints, but for now I think I’ll continue to wait until at least one person finds the cache without help before I offer assistance to other seekers. Have fun! <evil> <evil> <evil> |

Hehe ... yea, - Cow Spots won't even give a crumb. I offered them a new Benz, but no-go.
Just wished I had watched PBS when I was in college?! Fargo, who? Excellent! |

That is the risk you take when you put out a puzzle geocache. I like some puzzles, and so look at all puzzle geocaches in my normal hunting area. I have even solved some across the country that I probably will never get to. But I don’t obsess about any of them, if it doesn’t appeal to me, I put it on my ignore list and go on, there now are plenty of geocaches out there for me to find. ----- |

Not sure I'd categorize it as a "risk." So far I've had a blast with this one, and I know it's going to be a very satisfying experience for not only the First Finder, but for anybody who solves the puzzle on their own. Quite a few of the sharpest and best local puzzle-solvers are currently working hard at the solution, according to the Audit Log and the volume of email I'm getting, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it found very soon. After it's been found at least once, I plan to start posting a few hints here and there to make it a little easier. If you decide you like it better then (or if you change your mind in the meantime), give it a go! If not, I certainly understand. Of course I'll start adding hints if a long time goes by without any finders, but then how long is "a long time" is what I'll have to decide. My family and I will be out of the country on a two-week trip this summer -- I think I'll at least wait until after the trip. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KBI, |

A hint has now been added to the cache page.
I have also dropped the difficulty rating, and removed the "members only" status. Git 'er done!! |
