Got your attention?

We have a situation where an out-of-state geocacher has placed a cache in Kolomoki Mounds State Park without permission. The cache cannot be approved for posting, and the owner has given me the OK to have a local geocacher retrieve it and do with it as they would like.

So I'm looking for someone who would like to go to this southwest GA area park and retrieve the cache before a park ranger finds it and becomes annoyed, etc. This needs to be a low profile operation, for obvious reasons.

If you would like to pick it up, please reply to this post and I'll send the coordinates to you.

Thanks.

-Brad

Kolomoki sounds Hawaiian. I thought maybe you or the cache owner were offering round-trip airfare. Nuts!

More information on the park and its name follows:

quote:

Kolomoki Mounds State Historic Park is an important archaeological site as well as a scenic recreational area. The seven earthen mounds within the park were built between 350 AD and 750 AD by prehistoric Woodland Period Native American cultures identified by archaeologists as Swift Creek (Kolomoki) and Weeden Island Indian cultures. The mounds include what may be Georgia's oldest great temple mound, two burial mounds and four other ceremonial mounds. The park's museum is situated to enclose a partially excavated burial mound, providing an unique setting for viewing artifacts and a film.

I'm up for a trip down that way. I've a lady friend in Albany I haven't seen for a while. To see her, visit the mounds again, and retrieve a cache, well, I don't need much prodding!

See ya on the hunt!

I'd like to get it out of there ASAP, but if no one else chimes in before you are ready to go, I'll send you the coordinates.

That cache, if found by a Ranger, could really set back all of the hard work done by people like Erik. If the Ranger finds it and complains to his superiors we may end up with a very hostile policy regarding geocaching in state parks. I have not looked yet, but are there any active caches anywhere nearby? If there was you might be able to find a cacher from the area that would be willing to get by there either New Years Day or this Saturday.

Just a thought.

I think DaReb will be able to get to it before me.

Has anyone considered contacting the park, letting them know that it's there, and telling them that we are sending someone to pick it up?

Goss et. al., I believe we have someone lined up to pull the cache out of the park. It's my opinion that we will be ahead of the game if we can tell them what happened and that we have already taken care of it. But I will discuss this with Erik, as he has been our point man with the parks administration.

I'll let you all know when it is resolved.

Well, Reb...I could go place a cache in an innapropriate area, just so you can have a legitimate excuse to go visit!
