Yep, I felt it was my duty to mark this historical spot with my first cache and to give everyone an opportunity to practice there bushwhacking skills! I wish it would have been in place before all the recent activity in the area but I guess that just gives everyone a good reason to come back. As a matter of fact there are a lot of quality caches near here. White Oak Stamp is a good hiking cache on the AT that as of today still has not been found. From the view at Montgomery Corner you can see the location of several nice caches. Riley Knob, Boteler Peak/Shooting Creek Bald, Tusquittee Challenge, and White Oak Stamp to name a few. Just a little further north there is Mystery of Fontana, an awesome cache that really should be seeing more attempts. Anyhow, I just wanted to let everyone know so hopefully it want become the loneliest cache in NC>

I like "Signal the Bear". Where'd they get the frog from anyhow? I don't know if I like hiding caches or not! The suspense is killing me! I can't seem to keep from checking the computer every few minutes to see if it's posted. Hey mxcr, what bait did you use in the trap? I hear ammo boxes are the best bait!

Hey, that didn't take too long to get approved! I hope anyone attempting this cache has a great time. Please be careful, tell someone where your going, and don't forget the hint pic! I also hope every enjoys the story. I tried to make it as short as possible. Did I mention that the FTF prize is a $100 bill!
****Just kidding*****

No, I didn't find any markings. It was cold, windy and getting dark so I didn't get a chance to really search. I plan to look around more later. I don't have any discription of any marker for Montgomery corner. It's very possible there was no marker. The line from Ellicott Rock west was marked by marking trees on each side of the line with three chops, the fore and aft trees with a blaze on the east and west side, the mile trees with the number of miles from Ellicott's rock, on the east side of the tree, and a cross on the east and west side. I think the Montgomery line would have been marked very much the same way. I'm sure after almost two hundred years the tree marks would be gone. They did set a few stones with marks and even locust post with marks. I don't know for sure but I think several of the cachers on this forum have looked for markings at the thirty mile post. I don't think any of them have found anything. I really hope that one day a cacher will find "the stone" and post a photo and coords. When you get to Montgomery corner cache, look up in the forks of a tree just downhill from the cache. You might be suprised at what you see!

One group of Surveyors started at GA/NC/SC point and headed west, a different group started at GA/AL/TN and headed east. When they came "together" the GA/NC/SC group was 661 yds north of the GA/AL/TN groups, so they marked the two corners and drew a line between them.

Not to worry. To most that I know, it is NOT about the FTF. A cache stands on its' own merit. The very nature of its' location will dictate that it will not get a lot of visits. That's ok, too. Some of the best caches rarely get visitors. (Been to Ellicott Rock?)

That's a good point phat bak! I haven't been to Ellicott rock cache, yet! I don't think we've even made it to any White Co. caches either. We'll get over there soon.
