All,

I'm taking mtn-man's advice and starting a topic here on the GGA forum to find out if there is any interest in this.

I have commissioned the GGA logo to be digitized so I can have it embroidered on shirts, hats, etc. This really began as something for me to have a nice trade item for leaving in caches and has expanded from there.

I'm still trying to get pricing for different items, but if there's enough interest I'll be happy to try to get some items stitched up as examples to bring to the Mozzarella's Revenge meet-n-eat.

I had begun to look at getting polos stitched up, but thought that hats or patches may be the way to go instead. Opinions? I'm open to suggestions so that I can get pricing on what people would like the most, if anything.

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

- Mark (S-4-C)

Somewhere at home, I have electronic copys of large single color GGA logos which I got from LoCache (who designed them). As far as I know they were never copyrighted and were not planned to be.

Allen,

I checked with mtn-man about getting this done prior to doing so. He provided me with a link to the logo which was adequate for the digitizers. I was advised that as long as I am a member of the GGA that I would have permission to use the logo.

Before this looks like a big garage sale type of thing, everyone, please don't think I'm looking to make a bunch of money on this. I just want to give everyone else a chance to get some of the items I was planning on having made for myself. mtn-man thought a few of the members would like to have shirts or other items made for themselves, so I'm thowing this out the the group.

If you've got some ideas for something you'd like to see the logo embroidered on, let me know and I'll try to get you some pricing. The good news is that I have been told that if a person provides the item to be embroidered, the only fee involved would be for the stitching which would cost about $5-6, depending on the stitch count of the logo. Of course they'll only take new, unsoiled items to be embroidered, so you can't take any of your old sweaty caching caps to be stitched. Smile

Thanks for wading through these ramblings...

I know I would want at least one or two polo shirts done. I love the cafepress golf shirt, but embrodery would look so much better. I would want a cap done as well. I'm not big on patches myself, but that is just me.

As I told S-4-C, I love the idea. I have used the GGA logo on stuff (as everyone knows all too well), and as long as you do not manipulate it your personal usage is fine.

As long as I can purchase at the beginning of the month when I briefly have money, I'd probably want a couple of the polo shirts. Be sure and get pricing for the XXXL size. There's lots of me to get lost. Smile

I would love to get a digitized copy of the logo. My mother-in-law does embroidery, and she could make a few for me.

Normally I'd have no problem helping you out, but since I've paid out of my own pocket to get the logo digitized, I have a hard time just giving the file away.

Granted, I'm not planning on making any money on the items that people want to buy either. I'm just passing on my company pricing to the members. If people can give me ideas if items and quantities wanted, I can get pricing. More pieces per run costs less to produce, so I'm hoping to lump several "orders" together in one batch to give everyone the best pricing available.

Regards,

- Mark (S-4-C)

Dev, I think Mtn-man is keeper of the GGA Steering Committee copy of the GGA logo. He should pop up here soon and offer it. Otherwise, email him direct. And Allen Lacy (above) says he has copies. Hound him, too.

If by digitized you mean an electronic copy, I will make the same offer that I made Strapped-4-Cache. I will provide it for the same price I paid, which is zero. But if by digitized you mean a pattern ready to embroider, then I don't have that.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

I will freely share the copy of the .jpg file that mtn-man had forwarded to me. However, the embroidery-machine-ready digitized file is something that I just don't want to give away.

I'm sensing that this may become a sore point with some and am having reservations about selling items with the logo on it. Rather than cause a rift it may be better if I go with my original plan and make a short run of items for myself and replenish as needed.

Honestly, I don't want to seem greedy or seem as if I'm trying to make money off of the GGA - that wasn't my intent. I just thought some embroidered logo items might be something people might want.

I'm open to feedback and am happy to follow whatever the members think is best. I'd rather keep the friends that I have in the club than to be the cause of a debate.

Let me know what you think.

This is just MHO, and not from the Steering Committee.

What say we pass the hat to reimburse your costs and you donate it to the GGA? Any GGA member could then use it and you'll not be out any $$.

All,

I had intended to wait for mtn-man to put in a response, but knowing his schedule it may take a while. He and I had originally talked about getting the club to pay for the digitizing fee, but so much was going on at the time that nothing ever happened with that idea. I just wanted to go ahead and get some personal items embroidered, so I commissioned the design to be digitized out of my own funds.

I'm fine with being reimbursed for the fee and turning the file over to the club, especially since that was the original idea.

By the way, I saw the first run of the stitch-out yesterday and had to send it back. They're having problems keeping the text below the GGA logo legible when it's downsized for putting it on a hat. I'm hoping to see a stitch-out of the final design on a hat and a polo shirt by the end of the week.

Regards,

- Mark (S-4-C)

Mark,

Just wanted to say that when the time is right, I too would like a couple of polo shirts - maybe one with my geonick on it, one without.

Also, based on the SC or not, I'd chip in to help reimburse your digitizing expense.

Trez & all,

I meant to say this in my last post, but got to rambling and forgot to put it in there. Guess my brain has gotten disconnected from my fingers lately.

The estimate I've gotten for the fee is $50-$60, digitizing the logo as it appears on the main page of the ggaonline site. Any changes to the logo can be from $5-$10 and up depending on how simple or complex the change might be, but I understand that the logo itself, including the text beneath, must remain unchanged.

mtn-man, or anyone else that may know, can you advise on what changes, if any, can be made to the logo? If the text beneath can be left off it would really make things easier when the logo is made smaller for caps and such.

Thanks,

- Mark (S-4-C)

Crash and burn...

I just got notified that the the division in my company that I had been working with to digitize the logo has officially closed it's doors. I'll be able to get the logo files that are currently done, but they're not quite correct yet. Hopefully they'll finish the current items before stopping production altogether.

If I find a vendor that offers competitive pricing on embroidering items I may revive this topic, but I doubt I'll have access to the price breaks that I once had for shirts, hats, etc. Wish I had acted sooner so that some items could have been produced.

Win some, lose some.

Regards,

- Mark (S-4-C)
