Over the summer it happened to the Lake Lanier cache, and it looks like one of the other very old caches in Georgia has disappeared. I searched for about 30 minutes for the Stone Mountain cache, but to no avail. I even searched areas 500 feet away so that Trailerman wouldn't best me and find it later. I don't think that the owner of this cache is active any longer, maybe someone wants to adopt this one and the old number can be preserved as was the case with the Lake Lanier cache.

I just searched for surrounding caches in Stone Mountain and it looks like only a couple users, "Dogdoins" and "Ramness" have active actual caches in the park that would need occasional maintenance, so it would be ideal for them to pick it up if so inclined. The other caches are Virtuals or owned by users that may not be active either anymore. Or it could be adopted by someone that already has a park admission sticker or doesn't mind the $7.00/car charge each time they go there.

I'm not sure I understand "adopt this". Do you mean create a new one and maintain it?

I've got an ammo can that's not doing anything. I also have a sticker that hasn't been used much lately. Parking sticker, that is.

Adopt means keep the cache alive and the early GC number but just have the cache switched to your user name. This is a simple procedure that can be done thorugh a quick email to jeremy.
However you will ahve to let jeremy no that the hider is no longer active/unresponsive to emails and he can add it to your account. That is what I did for two caches here in macon.

Happy Hunting! Smile

If war protesters don't believe in violence what would they do if we punched them in the nose?

It sounds as though the cache has been stolen. I'd be glad to take it on as it was one of my first. I can't do anything until next weekend so we can either archive it or someone can hide one and I'll maintain it. Let me know.

Look at the cache page. Chris did respond and offered to transfer ownership of the number.

With a number like GC1E (placed in June of 2000) I dreaded the thought of losing that one to the geo-graveyard. I contacted Chris Reynolds this morning and asked him for permission to take over his cache. Since he no longer lives in the area he agreed. After Geo Admin makes the paperwork official I will begin planning a new Stone Mountain Cache. Unfortunately/fortunately for all of those of us who have found it . . . . forget it. It "ain't" going into the same spot. He, he.

Also, I can pretty much guaranty that it will not be a 1/1. I've learned some tricks over the last sixteen months that I want to try out. Stone Mountain Park is a terrific location for a good multi/unknown.

Wish me luck on getting this transferred and recreated.

Has anyone that has previously found it confirmed it is actually missing?

That’s would really suck if that one disappeared. That was my first find on Halloween 2000.

I have a park pass and can check it out

Shucks, I guess it would be a really good idea to check around to verify that it has actually disappeared. I've been in the Park twice this week working on the replacement but have not actually gone back to the old area. I have to go back to do some more on the replacement. I'll check around. But if anybody else wants to do the same I would be VERY grateful.

Email me at: ggaugler@yahoo.com with your findings.

hmm! I’m going to watch it tonight to see if any logs appear. If not im going to try and be first!

I see there is no description of what you are looking for at the stages but then again it is also listed as a traditional… this should be interesting!

hehe yup but I don't list that there are stages!

I went for the new cache this morning. Very nicely done, he spent some time on the stages! Was able to walk up to all of the stages but # 4, we looked for that for about 30 minutes before we had to give up so I could get to work on time. I'll try again tomorrow morning!

Replied to request for hint at around 9 or 10 this morning. Hope I gave you enough to encourage but not to much so as to give it away.

Okay it has been three months since I have reworked the Stone Mountain cache into Tour of Stone Mountain. I have had numerous neo-geocachers log finds expressing that they really had fun doing this one.

Unfortunately, other than Brian, none of the veterans of our club see this cache because it doesn't show up on any inquiry. I would love to get a few comments from the grizzled veterans too.

Again shameless plug, but if I didn't no one would remember to put it back on their list as a possible find.

Thanks,
