Looks like it's a good week for bear stories.

I've been wanting to get back to Jacks River Falls for a while now. I finally decided to head that way this past Friday, the first FULL day of summer. I took Charlie & Emma with me. We had a great day. I had a cool, relaxing swim at the falls. It was on the way out that the real excitement occured. Emma ran about 40-50 yds down the trail and made a sharp left downhill into the woods. That's when I heard the distinct roar of a bear. I yelled, "NO! EMMA COME!!". I don't know if it was me calling or the roar of the bear, but she came back to the trail lickity-split. I immediately put Charlie & Emma on their leashes. Since the bear was in the tree WITH her cub, I took a few QUICK photos and promptly moved on my way.

Check out my log and see all the pics I took.

Great pictures....I'm glad Emma and Charlie declined the lunch invitation....I'm not sure that Savannah would have minded like Emma did.

What beautiful pictures! I really need to get up north and do some caching. I was lucky enough to see a couple different bears in Tennessee last fall while visiting Cades Cove. I was so excited my pictures just look like black blur. Now had one of them roared there wouldn't even be blur... lol.

Those are great photos. Why were the bears in the tree? Did the dogs scare them up there or was momma going to fetch her baby?

I've managed to get through the year without any black bear sightings. Glad the doggies are relatively well behaved (except at GGA meetings! Razz).
