I just came back from Colorado where I went to an event cache. It was in the same place where we had an event cache exactly five years earlier to the day. This time, three groups of cachers set out on a 4x4 Adventure. Two groups did a moderate tour and one group did the "we are going up that?!" tour. I got to ride with a cacher from CO on the difficult tour. We had a great time.
The highlight of the difficult tour was a 0.1 mile climb up what is called "SOB Hill". It is all of that. It is set in two stages in essence with a short 20 foot stop in between after you hop over a ledge. I only took one blurry image of the bottom section. The top is the more difficult section, but no one got stuck or flipped or needed a winch or anything. They were all Jeeps except for one guy in a 1977 Ford F-250 Ranger pickup. He was funny looking with all the Jeeps. Of course, we then grabbed the cache at the top of the hill! Once we got over the hill, we were quickly over the tree line and got great views from Glacier Peak. We ate lunch at 12,800 feet. As we finished lunch (and grabbed the cache at the top of the peak), lighting and pea sized hail ran us off of the top of the peak (but just below the peak we were still caching, including a cache at Georgia Pass no less!). I know you 4x4 folks will like these pictures. http://picasaweb.google.com/puppymonster/ColoradoLuau4x4AdventureRun All three groups meet at Georgia Pass. |
