Looks like you were very lucky they came along at an oportune time. I didn't see your Honda in the pix of the rangers removing your Honda.

Are you sure it wasn't a YJTB that was stuck in a teeny ditch. Wink

Err, ahh, I'd lean towards them being part of the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, Dahlonega. 10th Mountain Division is based in Fort Drum, NY, and it might be a bit of a trek to GA for training for them. The battalion in Dahlonega trains potential rangers and refreshes old ones, so could be some of the 10th. Can't see the patches well in the pics.

Semper Fi? That's jarhead talk! Fightin' words to a Ranger. Smile

Well, it's clear to me that all our defense funding is going overseas right now. It is a shame that our troops state-side must be transported in such seriously out-dated equipment. In fact, I'm guessing THAT vehicle must have been new during the Korean conflict. Anyway, what is that paint job? Redneck camouflage?

Could be Redneck, or GSA. Here in the States, the active Army tends to get their vehicles from leases that are let by the General Services Administration. That's why you see regular cars in a myriad of colors with US Gov't license plates. They're generally leased, or if purchased, replaced every two years. (GSA auctions are good places to get good used vehicles, one just has to be car savvy to detect the lemons.)

Most likely GSA put out a contract for trucks with certain specifications. 2 1/2 ton, flat bed, stake sides, that kind of thing. They really don't give a rat's about the color. The trucks in the picture really aren't that old, just funny looking. Sort of like putting a Kenworth cab onto a pickup truck bed.

Army Reserve and Army Guard usually train with their own equipment, but if at a formal training school, the troops use the school's equipment. Cheaper that way.
