I am thinking about a 1-2 day roadtrip in the next 10 days to try to fill in some of the map segments. I have most if not all of them in N. Georgia, but not many south of Atlanta.
My thought is to cover the areas next to Alabama and then Florida, then up the coast. Let me know if anyone would like to join me. I'm flexible as to dates, and would certainly adjust the plan to accomodate your Delorme needs as well. |

KVOM,
your post about traveling to fill in map segments confused me. I just got a Delorme pn-40and it is fresh out of the box. I didn't understand you needed to travel to an area to get those map segment. I got the impression you downloaded them online and them pushed them to your GPS using the TOPO software and USB cable. I seem to have much to learn. I would love to go caching with you and pick up tips on the use of my new GPS. |

You and KVOM are talking about two different things, so I suppose it's probably easy to get confused by the comment. Basically, the Delorme map books have pages in them. Each page is a "segment" of the map. There's a challenge cache in the state where you have to first go out and find (at least) one cache falling somewhere inside each map page in the Delorme map books for the state of Georgia. Only after this has been done can you then submit your list of qualifying caches to the cache owner (who will verify each) and provide you the final coordinates to the cache. At that time, you can then go log the final. So, while you're right, you can push them from your computer, that's not exactly what he was referring to...

Now I understand! Thanks, though I would still enjoy going out with another PN-40 user to get some pointers.
Not that I would not like to cache with anyone regardless of the GPS they use. Solo caching is great but caching with a friend is lots of fun. |

Now, that would definitely be a DeLorme Challenge!
We got our PN-40 right before Thanksgiving and are still learning about all the tricks it can do. We've been downloading the aerial imagery and it sure puts a different slant on geocaching when you can view the tree you're standing next to on your GPSr. KVOM's trip sounds like so much fun, we almost wish we had to go along just to load the map segments. ____________________ We make difficult caches even more so. |
