Fifty ft is a huge area on the side of a hill!
That's interesting about the .12 mile. Did the Jeep bushwhack too!! hehe.
I don't think Johnny would mind me saying that when you get to the spot it may help to hunt along the contour then go up and hunt the contour again until you come upon the cache.
I was really hoping you guys would find it today. It really is a quality cache. Sorry you had a DNF.

Ouch!
So far, only the N.C. cachers 'glee club' has found it. Maybe if they moved it a few feet south into Georgia territory, we could find it. Evil King

There would have to be a tram built before I could get there, tho ... Up To No Good

It is on the NC side because the GA side is a wilderness area.

Also from the logs I can tell they tried it one of the the harder ways, this not to say there is an easy way.

Edit to add:
You should always remember "the shortest way isn't always the best way." I discovered this on my first geocache find.

Hey phat.bak
I'm sure that you can get to KVOM, it isn't any steeper than your hide at 4R's cubed.(Terra) What is it about the state line anyway?? MXCR

The thing that bugged me about the whole affair was that both GPS put is only 4 feet away with a 15ft EPE. If we could have found the ribbon, then I would have chalked it up to an animal, but no box and no ribbon. Either the sats were being naughty or a muggle got it.

I can't see a non-geocacher being anywhere near this geocache. Now I could believe a relative of the bear that keeps moving the final stage of starhopping might move this one.

Also remember EPE stands for Estimated Position Error. The garmin EPE is at the 50% level i.e. if it says 15 ft there is a 50% the position displayed is actually within 15 ft, and a 50% chance that it more than 15 away maybe much further.

Between the two of us, KVOM and I trampled out about a 100ft radius uphill and downhill and didn't see anything.
We may have totally missed it, but my GPS has never been that wrong before.

I have heard of false positioning in GPS units before, an anomaly that is caused by multipathing, but it's hard to imagine two units getting bad positions at the same time.

I just got down from the mtn. that KVOM is on.
I couldn't find it either. Reasonably sure that I went back to the right spot (not 100%). No tape, No ammo box. BTW, there's some pretty good 4wd action up thru there. MXCR

I met up with mxcr to go see about the cache. I found KVOM and sparc77's tire tracks and evidence of hunt activity all over the cache area. I can't imagine what has happened to the cache but I'm at least 95% sure the cache and the ribbon are missing. I remember the coords being pretty close when we found it. It is difficult terrain and the GPS does move around in this area. 60 CSX and Vista C. I really hope we just missed it but I think one of the four of us would have found it.

I think someone moved it....

Probably a cousin of the guy who keeps moving the starhopping final!

Will check on it soon. If it got moved by a animal,
it will be lower on the mountain and might be next to imposable to find. We have the tracks and a lot of waypoint took the day it was hidden. I will either find it or replace shortly.

PS It will be simi-bear proof this time.

sparc77 did you save the track from your GPS? If so I would like a copy, I have a garmin, but I think using GPSBabel I should be able to handle anything if you saved it out of your GPS.
