If so, I'm taking 2 TBs and one is 6" tall so I need a strip friendly recommendation, as we won't have a car. I know the area is saturated and the cache size is now listed but wanted some input from anyone who's been.
Any caches we should bypass? Thanks!

Mtn-man, Gpsfun, and I were there earlier in the year. I skipped the caches on the Vegas strip, though I think mtn-man did some. I'm not sure if there are any that aren't virts or micros though.

I'd suggest renting a car and going out to the nearby Red Rock Canyon Park. It's a great place with lots of caches.

If I remember correctly, GA Cacher was out there earlier this year and he did some on the strip. I want to say they were all virtuals or micros but I may be misspeaking myself on that part. I am jealous though, need someone to carry your bags and GPS for ya? Smile

First when are you going to Vegas? Cause we'll be out there from Oct 21-25. So if you're going after then, I can give you a full report.

If you rent a car, I know there is a TB depot in Henderson.

Also, you can email JustAmy through GC.com. She lives out there now and could probably help you out.

I would second the recommendation regarding Red Rocks. If you are going that far out there, missing that would be a shame.

I don't remember any caches on the strip that would hold a 6" tall TBug.

I was in LV this summer and did 16 caches while attending a conference. Vegas has some of the cheapest rental car rates in the country, so I'd recomend getting a car and skipping the Strip virtuals.

There are two caches very close to the airport in Sunset Park that are suitable for TB's:

1) A ScoobyDo & Friends Cache - GCG6V3
2) In a "safe" place - GCGYTG

The latter was my favorite.

Bumping..

Mtn-man, any in particular you'd recommend. Me and AG are flying out Thursday.. our only caching day would be Sunday, so we're gonna rent a car and head out to Red Rock. I'm just about to pull up maps of the area, but if you have any "need to get" out of the dozen or so that are out there, we're listening.

(Erik/Brad/KVOM/et al, yall too)

Yes, I will third all the RED ROCK caches. It is only about 20 miles from the Strip. They are wonderful. I was there this past August. I also did some around the city.

A follow-up: Is "Red Rocks" the same as Red Rock Canyon? Trying to narrow down my query a bit and/or at least get a starting point.

The initial query I did from our hotel of 100 miles and 400 caches gave 400 caches within 21 miles.

Google gives me lots of climbing links for "Red Rocks", and other links give me Red Rock Canyon.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Cymbaline
Yes, Red Rocks is Red Rock Canyon.
It is a 13 miles one-way drive in a loop around the canyon. I did most all the caches on the loop. I didn't have time to do several. I spent several evenings after our convention, until dark. It is very DARK out there. The first cache that I did at the start of the one way loop was "LoveYouAlwaysDonna" GC6BDF. You can check my finds to see which ones are on the loop.
Good Luck!!!! All these caches are worth the time!

I did several of them back in the spring, and agree with YJ. Luckily I get to go back in a few weeks for a business trip. I'm planning to stay an extra couple of days to go geocaching. Currently the temps are about 5° lower in Las Vegas then here, so it should be perfect geocaching weather. Smile

Thanks for the input, guys. I've already started checking it out, and will check out your finds to see which are on the loop, YJ (and erik) too.

Since it's a drive-loop, I'm going with the impression that there are places to park, et al. We'll figure it out. Part of the fun, right? Smile

Great news and I'm glad you had fun. I have been seriously out of pocket and missed the earlier note. I would have said that any of them are worth the visit out there at Red Rocks.

Will be looking at your profile for the logs!

Yeah. the Red Rock caches were a lot of fun with amazing views. Loved the wild donkeys, lol!

Kind of strange how we didn't bother with any of the strip virtuals other than the one right at our hotel (Paris). We probably were around several others, but didn't bother to check out the PQs before heading out to gamble all our $$$ away Wink

Cached most of the day Friday. Saw Jimmy Buffett on Saturday at the MGM Grand. And caught Cirque de Solie's Mystere on Sunday. Oh yeah, did I mention we lost a lot of money gambling in between? LOL! Fun trip!

I regard the money I saved by geocaching in LV in July was sufficient to fund the rest of my caching for the year!
