Big Grin
Maybe it's time to trade up?

A geocacher's nighmare: able to find hundreds of hidden boxes all over the world, yet can only find one sock when unloading the clothes dryer.

The hunt starts June 1st and they'll be putting out 4,000 travel bugs? This should be interesting. Hope GC COM's servers are up to it.

I assume/hope that Jeremy is getting enough money from Jeep to help pay for the server farm which will allow this to work.

Great!!

At least this one want end in a flurry of sleep-deprived cachers all converging on a illegal location outside legal hours for the location. Sneaky

I think that if someone wins a Jeep from a TB retrieved from a cache, the owner of the cache should get a free ride in the Jeep.

That is an astute, and correct, hypothesis.
So we all benefit from this commercial tie-in. As an employee of a competitor to Daimler Chrysler / Jeep I wish it had been Land-Rover instead of Jeep, but there is a certainly irony to having thousands of Yellow Jeeps publisizing our sport.

The GGA should get a supply of the travel bugs to distribute at a future GGA meeting. This should be fun. And someone might actually win a Jeep. Smile

As I understand it, the travel bug promo and the win-a-jeep promos will be seperate though. The Jeeps will be won through the normal on-line sweepstakes entry process, with three drawings to award the three Jeeps. The travel bug thing is just for fun, as far as I know.

But if I win I'll give you a ride, Kenneth. Wink

I'm a bit confused as to entering. Does finding the jeep travel bugs have anything to do with the contest? I couldn't find any reference to the need to find caches when I entered.

The rules for the sweepstakes are posted here.

The second program is a lot more fun for cachers: the Jeep Travel Bug Promotion. There will be 4,000 die-cast Yellow Jeep Wranglers attached to a custom Jeep TB Tag. It is a monthly contest that runs from June 1st to December. Prizes will be given for best Photos and Best Essays (Logs) relating to the found TB's.

Groundspeak will be distributing most of the TBs through local organizations like the GGA. Another 1,000 will be available on the web site for people to request and they will ship them one. They will not start taking requests till June 1st.

The current goal for these bugs are just to travel around, Jeep is thinking about giving some of them specific goals.

The promotion is through Rodale Publishing. Here is a list of possible Magazines you may see the Jeep Ad: Bicycling, Runners World, Men's Health, Backpacker, Mountain Bike, Scuba Diving, Prevention, Organic Style, and Organic Gardening. They are in the current issues of Bicycling and Runners World.

Hope that helps,

~erik~
