Of a segway other than the cool factor.

Seqway
Maximum speed 12.5 mph
Battery range: 10 miles in good conditions on a single charge, 15 miles under optimal test conditions,

A Electric Razor Scooter
Maximum speed 12.5 mph
Range up to 13 miles

But the scooter costs less than $600, in fact is on sell for about $300.

Cool isn't worth an extra $4,500 to me.

Segways in Atlanta

But it still doesn't appeal to me enough to me to fork over the money.

The last couple of times I have been in the airport I have seen the Atlanta cops going buzzing through the terminal on their Segways. This past weekend I saw one guy go through baggage claim and go flying off into the corridor. He must have had it at just about the maximum speed. They are pretty wild.

I think it would be cool to try one out. Can't justify $5000 to own one but it would be cool to rent one even for just an hour or so.

There is a CNN article about Renting a Segway Currently you have to go to Spokane, Washington. But the owner Larry Lambeth hopes to go nationwide. I noticed this at the end of the article.
quote:
And forget about renting one of the expensive machines and scooting off with Larry Lambeth's investment.

"We put GPS (global positioning satellite) units on them so we could track their location," Lambeth said, "but its hidden within the machine so don't bother looking for it."

Me thinks it's more than just a GPSr.

Sure, they could download a track to find out where it has been. But to find out where it is requires a transmitter of some kind.

LoJack kinda device maybe?

See ya on the hunt!

One of my favorites for trailers is this little covert model:

I have a link to a small one at my office and I will post it on Monday.

Should we be watching Ebay for a "used Segway" deal or do you think it was stolen for a joy ride? Wink
BTW... Is the recharging system built in or external? If external, you couldn't drive it far.
