I know I can count on the GGA folks for this 'cuz they have the scoop on things like this and the right web pages bookmarked, so which of the retail stores has the best price right now on a li'l yellow Garmin eTrex? I'm supposed to buy one for some newbies who are just getting into geocaching and want one for Christmas. Ho! Ho! Ho!

They sell GPS units retail? Eek

I'm a big fan of gpsdiscount.com ...

They have the etrx for $89.99, and the Gecko 101 for $94.99.. throw in $5.00 shipping and you're talking $95-100. You also get a t-shirt.

I haven't seen a yellow etrex lately in Target, come to think of it.

If the yellow e-trex is what you want, go eBay. You can get one that's brand new for around $75 plus shipping. If you don't mind one that was used a handful of times, you can get one for as little as $50.

I actually have found a new source for GPS units.
Garmin accomodation form for Best Buy employees, can we say dirt cheap. ( I cant post exact prices, but I will say that is lower than GPSdiscount.)

Unless you have connections to Garmin or any wholesaler or a Best Buy employee, GPSdiscount.com is the way to go. I have bought all 4 of my RINOs there, and as Jason said they give you a free t-shirt.

Thanks, but I'm looking for a RETAIL store where I can walk in and buy one today or tomorrow. I can't wait for shipping with 9 or 10 days to Christmas. I checked Froogle.com, but none of the popular chains (Best Buy, Circuit City, Bass Pro, etc.) are listed, just online shops. Does anyone have a better price comparison web page?

If you're looking walk-in retail, you'll be paying $99-$109. I have not seen the yellow etrex much, only the legend. But since Best Buy and Office Depot carry GPS, you'll probably find them there. Sports Authority is another possibility.

Several weeks ago, I happened to catch Clark Howard's radio program and heard him mention three seemingly useful websites which might have helped in this hunt (sorry, Bob!):

Cairo.com
Shoplocal.com
Stepup.com

Each site seems to have its strengths and weaknesses (e.g., I use Firefox and dump all cookies after exiting Firefox, and this causes one or two of the sites to "forget" my location) and I have not yet found one of them to necessarily be any better than the others, so I tend to use them all.

Anyway, HTH.
