Seems that LED replacement bulbs are getting cheaper now. They give consistent light and increase battery life.

Maglite produces a 3 WATT LED bulb for $18.98. Bulb SKU # depends on size and number of batteries.

Nite Ize has an 8 WATT LED bulb that fits C or D cell lights and adapts itself to the battery count. Only $8.98!!! Nite Ize also makes an LED changeover for the AA Mini Mag that works well. I like the AA conversion so well I ordered an LED bulb for my 4 D cell Mag!!!

Above products are all available at Wal-Mart, at least the Trion/Summerville store.

DISCLAIMER: Use of Nite Ize products will void the Maglite Lifetime Warranty.

We tried the AA conversion in one mini maglight and changed over two others. We have yet to change our big Mag-Lites because the minis lose the ability to change focus. The focus change is no problem on the small flashlights but we're not ready to give that up on our C and D flashlights. We need to explore if the focus problem exists on the C and D bulbs since we have not seen that conversion yet. Let us know how you like it and if you lose the ability to focus please. Thanks.

According to Nite Ize you retain the ability but I surely will post the results here.

I have the 3 watt upgrade for a 2D maglite, and it's quite nice. I'm not too concerned with the focusing feature, but it is retained with the mag lite upgrade. The light is also not as blue as a lot of the other LEDs I've seen.

I can't find anything about an 8 watt LED being released by anyone, let alone in a maglite replacement bulb. The highest I've seen out is 5W. I've looked at the niteize website, but can't find anything useful on it there.

The 8 watt is a quote from an email I got from Nite Ize. I unfortunately deleted it...

I bought the 3d Maglite with the LED. It comes also with the Krypton bulb stashed in the base. I have used it off and on for a month now and am very impressed with how bright a 3watt led is. I read somewhere that after about 15 minutes the circuits in the led get hot and the bulb shifts down its output in order to save the circuitry. Haven't seen that happen yet.
