Not sure, but if I were a betting man, I'd use this: Adobe Downloads for PocketPC/Windows Mobile 2003

Oh...and you might want to start a new thread next time as your message doesn't have anything to do with Google Maps, which was the thread topic.

Google has released the desktop version of the keyhole technology.

They are calling it Google Earth.
They have a free version, a plus version for $20/year, and a pro version for $400

The interesting part is where they mention:
quote:
KML – data exchange format let your share useful annotations and view. thousands of data points created by Google Earth users.

Not sure if you could get geocaches or GPX data in, but it sounds promising.

And the plus version says:
quote:

* GPS integration – read tracks and waypoints from your GPS.
* Annotation – adds draw/sketch tools for richer annotations (can be shared as KML).
* Data importer – read address points from .csv files.

Again promising on GPSr and reading waypoints.

The pro version does even more but I doubt any of us will fork over $400 for it.

Another Greasemonkey script that checks webpages for addresses and coords and opens a top banner on the webpage with Google Maps of the place, including pushpins.

Works with Yahoo Yellowpages,
Works with Geocaching.com cache pages too.

It is called GreaseMap.

Looks like Microsoft is trying to get in on the action now.

MSN Virtual Earth

Looks like the satellite images of my house in Google are clearer and more up to date than the aerial photos in MSN.

My son showed me Google Earth on his PC last night. Pretty cool, though I'm not sure the 3D views have much of an application to geocaching.

Have you noticed that google maps now have a mode call "hybrid" where the roads of map image are placed on top of the satellite image?

Here is the Aug GGA meeting.

Yea...I saw that recently.
I was gonna post here, but the thread looks like "Kenneth SPAMS the world regarding Google Maps".
It was only a minor update too.

It does help when looking at an area for hiding/finding a cache, without having to swith back and forth to see the roads nearby.

. . . without a cache.

Just found out that if you drag a GPX file and drop it into Google Earth, shazam! The caches appear in the map.

Slick.

Hmmm.....also saw something in GSAK update about showing your filters in Google Earth...probably doing the same under the cover.

Anybody notice all the added capabilities on GC.com for Google Earth?

Seems you can download Bookmark lists to in KML format and the added Google Mapping Features on my member page.
It has 'Download Geocache browser in Google Earth'.

Hmmm...edited to provide link: About Google and Geocaching

Anybody using this?

Yes, and it is super cool. The networked version is smokin'. It includes caches you have found and disabled caches, but it is cool to drag the map around, let it stream in and look and see where caches are or are not. If you zoom out far enough it will only give you a sampling of the caches. Click on the balloon and you get more info, including a link to the cache page. Click the link and it opens the cache page in Google Earth for you. Nice.

I have not pocket queried a KML file yet though. Supposedly you can drag the file onto the map and it will plot all of the caches. I have heard that you can drag a .gpx file into the map and it will load all the waypoints (as Rebel says above).

Keep in mind the disclaimer though... the location is *not* exact, but very close. It has been fun to play with.

But if you take the GPX of a Pocket Query and drop it on Google Earth it will show the geocaches in it and there location will be exact.

Yeah, I should have clarified that the disclaimer is for the networked GC.com KML file download.

Hmmm....I think the dragging of the GPX file onto it is probably the best way to go.

Thanks,

In case anyone was wondering about the status of Google maps.

Recently Push pins have been removed from the google map when you would click the 'Google Maps' text link from an Individual cache page. Without the push pin you lose your place on the Map or Satellite image.

GC.com has included another 'Geocaching.com Google Map' text link that behaves like the 'Visualize Waypoints' page when you select nearby caches, map them and select 'View results in Google Maps (beta)'.

Plus if you choose a bookmark (not shown) you can select caches you want by clicking the gray boxes adding Individual caches to your book mark. And of course pocket queries can produced from Bookmarks.

Reference GC forums

I downloaded Google Map software to my computer (Athelon) the other night, and it totally screwed everything up, locking it down tight. I had to re-boot from the CD and eliminate the software before I could resume computing. I was not a happy camper there for a day or so until I was sure I got everything back online.

Watch out. Google maps aren't for everyone.

I assume you mean Google Earth, Google Maps is just a website. Http://maps.google.com also GC.Com has a link to google maps on each cache page, which show this geocache. Plus on a geocache page you can click on "View Map" then "View results in Google Maps" which show nearby geocaches. Noone of these require a software download.

Note I download Google Earth and haven't had any trouble, but it is still beta, which means it may cause problems.

I downloaded Google Earth too, and it's working fine on my PC. It was sort of jerky on my son's so it may be a memory hog or need a fast processor to work properly.

It sure is cool though. I've been using it while reviewing caches and it's a lot of fun to do a virtual flight from one location to the next after doing a copy/paste of the coords from the cache page to the Google Earth application. Some areas of the world have better satellite photos than others, which is an aggravation.

Just wait until you try the 'tilt' feature.
