I have just come into possession of a used Garmin 35 PC. Garmin says that it is plug and play, but for some reason, both my laptop and PC think it is some sort of mouse. Has anyone else ever used one of these? Is it worth the trouble or did I wasted my time and money on EBay?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Mark,

Is the unit plugged into the laptop/pc when you boot it?
Sometimes Windows will detect an already attached device as a serial mouse.
Try booting without the unit connected.

Also, somewhere in Microsoft's never ending technical support is a knowledgebase (aka KB) article on how to bypass the mouse check.
There is a long and probably too detailed process about starting Windows here.

I think you will be mostly interested in the section titled "Contents and Purpose of Boot.ini"
You can edit the BOOT.INI file and change the section similar to the following (in bold what is added):
quote:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT /NOSERIALMICE

The process may be different for Windows 2000/XP, but should be similar.
They have intructions on editing the file just below the section I described.

Hope this helps.
Let us know and if it doesn't, maybe we can figure out something else.

Ahh...found the KB Article.
More basic and to the point.

Oh...found this so if you are using 2000/XP, then you'll need to use /fastdetect instead of /noserialmice.
