Howdy All- any Garmin users out there using the windshield mount (or the beanbag mount) for their GPSr WITH the 12v cigarette lighter adapter?
If so, precisely how does the 12v power cable/connector work with the mount?
I'm trying to learn how the 12v cigarette lighter adapter works with Garmin mounts -vs- how they work with my Magellan SporTrak Pro's windshield mount.
FWIW, with my Maggie, I initially snapped the 12v adapter into a fitted hole at the back of the mount, and ongoing, I merely snap the STP in/out of the mount as needed.
Does the Garmin arrangement work similarly or must one manually connect/disconnect the power cable each time the GPSr is removed from the mount?
Unless you have palsy, or a similar affliction, plugging the cable in is pretty easy. On mine it has a little alignment tab, so I could even do it in the dark.
I know Andy is having trouble logging in and I don't know for sure, but I believe someone at the pizza event told him it would not be a problem if he had a ram mount.
Andy?? you out there??? hehehe...

Even if plugging/unplugging the cable is easy, it's easier still to just snap the GPSr into/out of its cradle without having to plug in/unplug the cable. (This is what I do with my Mag STP, windshield mount, and 12v adapter arrangement.)
At the pizzacaching event last weekend, Strapped-4-Cache mentioned that Ram mounts are designed that way (no cable plugging and unplugging needed), however, I can't find any specifics on how exactly that works. Pictures of the cradles for the Ram mounts don't show what I think I'm looking for -- a snug spot on the cradle where the plug lives and putting the GPSr into the cradle *automatically* connects it to the plug.
I have this sinking feeling that this arrangement is only available on the Magellan mounts. Surely that's not accurate. Is it?

PS- I still can't log in to the boards from home. Using IE 6.whatever, dumped ggaonline/www.ggaonline cookies, turned off Proxomitron, etc. No dice.
(Edited to remove a stupid question which was answered by my continuing to read my digest...)

I had the same problem at home. I finally set proxomitron(Version 4.5) to bypass ggaonlin.org, cleared all cookies, cleared the cache, shut down IE (6.0.2880.1106), shut down Proxomitron. Then started Promomitron, then IE and haven't had a problem since.

I just re-read this thread and now understand what you want from the mount. Sorry I may have misled you. I thought you wanted a mount that would allow you to insert and remove your GPS while it was still plugged into the power/data cables, which the RAM mount will allow. However, the RAM mount won't hold the cables in place and automatically connect them to the GPS when it is inserted in the mount. Again, I'm sorry, but I totally misunderstood what you wanted until your last post of April 1.
I've gotta admit, though, that the RAM mount is pretty nice - keeps my GPSr in easy view while driving, easy to adjust where the mount is placed, and a snap to install and remove the receiver.
Hope you find what you're looking for.
