I didn't think you could change the date on the Yellow ETrex. I thought it pulled that from the sats. At least mine did the first time I turned it on. You can change the Daylight savings option; time zone, and 12:24 hr format.
I looked all thru my manual and it doesn't mention that option.

All the GPS units I have fooled with display the date and time they get from the satellites, you can tell it which timezone you are in and how to display it, but the system is based on the timing the signals from the satellites and so they are effectively very accurate clocks.

Was the date correct before you upgraded?
Either way, it sounds like a tech support question.

Let the GPS get a sattellite lock and the sats will fix the date and time. Thats what i do with the RINO.

If that doesn't work - I'd pull the batteries and let it die (if there are no important waypoints saved). Then put 'em back in and start over and let it reaquire sat info.

Just a thought.

My eTrex Venture/Legend/Vista displays the wrong date. How can I change it?
quote:

  • With power off, press and hold FIND, PAGE and Click Stick, and then press POWER.
  • Release all four buttons after 5-10 seconds when the welcome page is displayed
  • All memory is now clear.
  • Place the unit outside with a clear view of the sky until satellites are acquired (The unit will display "3D GPS Location.")

Confirm that the Year is displayed correctly on the Menu page after satellite acquisition. Date and time will be displayed in UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) and usually will not match local time until the Time Zone is configured in Setup.

Prevention

This problem may recur if the eTrex Venture, eTrex Legend, or eTrex Vista is stored without batteries. Recurrence can be prevented with an update to the latest software. Software updates are available for free download for the eTrex Venture, eTrex Legend, and eTrex Vista.

Be sure to notice the fact All memory is now clear.
