I know strapped uses a mapping program on his pocket PC, and I know that I asked him what he used, but I don't recall the answer...

So, what programs do people who use PocketPC use(particularly you, strapped)

I have been very happy using Mapopolis for my PPC, but there is a version for Palm as well. The subscription cost for unlimited map downloads for 1 year is about $35-$40, depending on the platform you use.

There IS a much more expensive version as well, but it's only good if you have an integrated GPS for your handheld. I'd rather save my $ for more toys.

I've had a brief email discussion with Corey from Team PEZ who seemed interested in the program. He has talked a little with the people at Mapopolis regarding the different software packages, and they seem to want to steer him to the most expensive one. Not sure if a handheld with an integrated GPS *requires* the more expensive software, but I can't believe that it does. The version I use accepts GPS input to allow real-time plotting, and it has worked very well for me so far.

What I like most about it is the ability to upload .gpx files into the GPXtoMaplet utility in order to have pushpins on the map of all caches in the file. Very useful for planning a cache run.

Blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda. Can you tell I really like this program?

Now if I can just get GPXSonar to work properly on my device. Guess I may have to uupgrade to PPC 2003.

I use MSST for cache maps, planning caches to do, and directions. Now if only I had PPC i could easily move it over to the PDA (the only downfall for me of having a Palm). I have never used Pocket Streets but if its like its Windows counter-part Im sure it would be good.

I thought about using Mapopolis, but decided against it as I got good enough mapping on my GPS. If I want better mapping, I can hook up to my laptop in the truck.

GPXSonar works ok for me with PocketPC 2002.
What version do you have Strapped-4-Cache?
Now I just need to find a cable that goes from my Meridian to my iPaq....hmmm...

Well... This gecko is now leaving the Palm world, and moving to the PPC world. I like the Palm devices, but I have found that it seems like there is a lot more available for a PPC device than for a Palm device, and the PPC is cheaper too. Besides which, PPC has managed to perfect the color thing, whereas Palm seems to not have done so. I liked my old Palm IIIe, but it simply doesn't serve my needs anymore. Good-bye Palm IIIe, hello Dell Axim X3i. Now I just have to wait for UPS to deliver it to me...

Anyway, the only problem I seem to be having with it now is that it is showing all caches as active, whether they have been archived, disabled, etc. Do you know of a way to filter out these types of caches? I don't want to waste my time looking for an item that's no longer there.

Your input would be appreciated.

Well, unless you really want them there, just change your Pocket Query to give caches that "Are Active".

I went to get my iPaq and the battery was completely dead. Doohh! I had cached in a few weeks with need for it.
So I can't look at it now.
I did check the
DOCS
and the filter on cache attribute might work.

When my batteries charge, I'll look at it and see if there is an attribute to filter on.
