I'm trying to download waypoints to my new Garmin GPSMap 60CS, but I'm not having much luck. I'm using the Serial connector (not the USB connector). I've tried using DeLorme Street Atlas and EasyGPS. Both software packages seem to recognize the GPS. EasyGPS is able to read the GPS Version info from the unit. It looks like the waypoints are being transferred, but when I click on FIND and go to Waypoints I don't see anything. I've also looked under Geocaches, but still no waypoints.

I'm I missing something? I even went so far as to READ THE MANUAL and even that didn't help. Wink

Suggestions & comments would be appreciated.

OK, I finally found the waypoints. When I pressed the FIND button, it gave me a menu and I chose Waypoints. At that point, the screen said NONE. However, when I pressed the MENU button and selected "Find by Name", a list of waypoints was given. NOW when I press the FIND button, the list of waypoints is shown.

Very strange. Has anyone else seen something like this on the GPSMap 60 series.

For some reason it will only show you waypoints within a certain range. When you go by name, it'll show everything from here to Alaska. Once you get within that disance, they'll show. Load some points near your house and try it. I'll give you another hint I had to call Garmin about. The book shows a geocaching mode, but says nothing about getting to it. Set your on/off road selector to "Prompted" and once you get close to the cache, select menu, recalculate, off road, and it'll give you a different style compass screen that has cache data, and a found button that will bring up the next cache. Pretty cool, once you get it figured out. I like mine, but I just found out it doesn't like NiMh batteries at all. Went to regular alkalines and the undercover hop practically stopped. It never ends.

I've only ever used NiMh in mine without problems. There were fixes Garmin gave out such as battery clip rubber bumpers behind the clips to keep them snug. I haven't needed them yet.

You mentioned the 'found' button. This is nice in that when you find a cache, you can select 'found' and it'll give you the next nearest one to find if you choose to go after it. But the one found also goes into your calendar which you can select the day in the calendar to see what you found and when. It's great to keep track (in order) of your finds to log them later for the day.

BTW, my 'nearest' DO show up even if the nearest is 400 miles away. Version 4.0.

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

Really? I've uploaded 4.0 to mine, but haven't tried it with distant caches. It was a silly gitch, maybe they fixed it along the way.
