Is it possible to produce a small device, which could only be used for one soul purpose. Having a gps chip (eg. Atmel chip) is it possible to make a circuit where you would only be able to extract position information (longitude and latitude) ?

Many new cell phones are equipped with a GPS chip that give Lat\Lon and can send that information in a 911 emergency

I get it free since I work with survey grade gps and am involved in GIS, but the subscription is not very expensive to the general public and if you deal anywhere in engineering or construction, you can get a free subscription. I highly recommend it if you are interested in the technology as opposed to an appliance. I apologise for the opening Smart A.. comment.
