Greetings, I need help in determining whether I can translate waypoints from my Garmin E Trex Vista to another GPS, say a Magellan or something else entirely. I intend to use EASYGPS to do the translation. This is for a bicycle related event and I need to be able to translate the waypoints to a number of GPSs. If you are willing to download EASYGPS from their website EASYGPS.COM and allow me to email you an easy gps file with 20 coordinates in it, please give me a call. Thanks in advance. I've got EasyGPS on my better half's PeeCee and could help, but I'm not sure what you are needing. If you are going to use easyGPS, you can download the waypoints from your ETrex to EasyGPS on your harddrive and then upload them to your other GPS's.
What exactly do you need?

I think what will work for you is GPSBabel.

Of course from your message, sounds like you need help in doing this.
Not sure of your timing on this, but I can't help until Wednesday evening at the soonest.

IE: if you have a magellan and you have a mapping program as well can you use EASYGPS, download my file into your computer, upload it to your GPS and see the waypoints I intend you to see? Thanks

I think what you want is to download your WPs into EasyGPS, then export them into a .loc file which you would post on the web.

Any person who has a GPS that supports upload could retrieve the file and transfer it to his GPSr.

For those who cannot do uploads, you should also post the coordinates on the web page for manual entry.

Your insight is most helpful. The intent is for BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia) I will be mapping the entire course on my computer over a weekend and will upload it to the BRAG website. from there, they will either charge (for my efforts) or not charge people to copy the file I have put up on the website. people will use these WPs to determine where they are to go over the 430 mile bike ride over a week. That IS a good use of the GPS.

Well here is information on BRAG. If you can handle 402 miles in a week, go for it.

I've done it twice. Had a blast both times! My second time I had the GPS (had not yet discovered Geocaching) and brought it along. I went ahead and shelled out the extra cash ($20 I think) to get the route maps in advance. This, and Mapsource software, let me preset all the rest stops and major intersections for route planning. Worked great.

One thing I found: BRAG routes tend to take you across secondary roads with rough surfacing (aka "shake and bake"). I found my GPSr didn't like the severe vibrations.
