Some of you are using my GPX Remailer, which converts Pocket Query GPX files into plucker files which can be loaded to Palms. It does this by converting GPX to HTML/Webpages, then uses plucker to convert the webpages to plucker form.

Well first of last week the computer that runs AllenLacy.com failed. The hosting company got a new computer and all the files restored. However for some reason plucker quit working. I worked with company to figure out why. We haven't been able to get it to work. I had planned to work on it this past 3 day weekend. However I wound up scouting a hiding place Friday and Saturday, and going cache hunting Sunday. So I guess I am not as dedicated as clayjar and Lil Devil.

But I will get it working again, it was a pain to have to use paper sunday.

Sorry I didn't let you know sooner.

I was on a trip when it failed. When I got back I had a message from the hosting company saying the computer had failed, but had been fixed and all the files restored. They also suggested that I check to make sure the last changes I done were there. I did and thought everything was ok. I wasn't until the end of week arrived and I didn't get my pocket queries, that I knew something was wrong. Once I checked amd saw that my part was running and that it was just a problem with Plucker on the server, I and the company thought it would be easy to fix. But it wasn't.

Just wondering if the GPX remailer is close to repair. I know you are pretty busy and this is not a huge priority. But I really like the files and I am so ready to use them now on some URBAN caches.

I am having to have a new version of Plucker installed on the server. Once that is done (hopefully this weekend), I can see if it works. I hate it when I set up applications that depend on other people programs, and their part breaks.

I will get it working as I need for my own cache hunts.

I really appreciate the gpxmailer and you for creating it. It is a handy tool. Godd thing it wasn't working last weekend, I may have had my palm pilot with me on my very damp adventure. fffphew! I would have ruined it too.

I think I got it fixed. We had to install a beta version of Plucker on allenlacy.com. But it seems to work. I will know for sure when my Pocket Queries are delivered tomorrow and I see the results of the remailer.

Any chance of being able to spin GPXs without plucker? Maybe just spin for the icons, etc and send back as GPX.

I've also thought about a Watchlist remailer that gives better descriptions in the subject, such as the cache name and who logged it.
Even better might be a Watchlist remailer that saves them into a digest for delivery once a day (I get sick of a couple dozen every day).

I could pursue these myself, but since you already have the domain, scripts, etc. then I thought you might save me the work.

Well I have plans to improve the remailer, now that my hosting company and I have fixed the problem. I need to start a thread about that. As for your ideas:

Creating a "spun" GPX instead of HTML/Plucker, that sounds easy. I will look into it.

As for manipulating other email from geocaching. For now I don't think so. One reason is that the remailer takes advantage of the "alternate email" address when you set up a pocket query. Watch list and new geocaching list go to your primary email address. The primary email is used for all the other emails that geocaching.com sends. This means the remailer would have to handle all the email, and if anything happened to the remailer you wouldn't get any of those emails, such as watchlist, new cache list, or email from other members of geocaching.com and you might not know it. Whereas the PQ come on a schedule and if they don’t arrive somebody will notice.
