I have the coords for each corner of an irregular shaped piece of real estate. How can I calculate the acreage within the points? Is there a simple program online? Help I emailed delta1, but he hasn't had time to respond. Help

If you know someone who uses AutoCAD (if you didn't before, now you do) the points can be 'drawn' into a drawing. AutoCAD has a feature that allows you to pick a number of points on the drawing and it will return perimeter length and area as defined by the picked points.

Another option is to use EasyGPS. You can load the waypoints into EasyGPS. Make one of the points 'active'. You can then get distance and bearing of all the other points relative to the 'active' point. You can also change which point is active to get the other points realtive to each other. Once you know the distances between the points and the angles between the sides you can use geometry and trig to calculate the area.

I like the first way better. Let me know if I can assist.

I hate to mention it since I know Trailerman doesn't have a Garmin. But the latest version of Garmin's Mapsource can calculate areas. It can do it for a tracklog. Just walk around an area, upload the tracklog. It can also calculate the area by using the measure tool. Just click on the various points, which can be waypoints or just locations on the map.

On the RINO you can measure area by actually walking the perimeter but this would be useful only on small pieces of land.

Trailerman, I've got the software at work that will do exactly what you want. If you will email me a file with the coordinates, I will send you the results.
