New version coming in March. Lots of little tweaks, what I found interesting in the announcement I received was:

- Ability to import .loc files

- Ability to import and export .gpx files

This could be some interesting software!

You can do this now if you are not ready to update your software. You can download babel http://www.gpsbabel.org/
and make the conversions from .gpx and .loc to .an1 files, however it takes a little learning to use it.

I will probably go ahead and upgrade. I am running "topoquads" v2.0 which carries you down to the 7.5 minute quadrangle sheet level.

I kinda do it now with 5.0 and GSAK. GSAK will export to a txt file that 5.0 will open. Cool thing about GSAK is that I can assign icons to cache types so that when I open the file in 5.0, Delorme Displays the icons on the map. One for trad cache, another for multis, etc.

I'm thinking this is a precursor to the upcoming Delorme GPSr. If so, and the new GPSr has Delorme maps in it, well, bye bye Maggie!

I have had a problem with my Delorme Topo USA 4.0, my system crashed with it running. Now it doesn't run. I have uninstalled it, cleaned my registry. But everytime I reinstall it, it runs once. If I shut it down, the next time I start it, it gives a strange error and shuts down. I had thought about going ahead and getting the V 5.0, but now I think I will wait on 6.0.

Thanks for advance notice Rebel.

I've used Delorme for years and I've seen some similar symptons associated to an incompatable video driver OR resolution setting. Try changing your monitor resolution and/or update a video driver. This is a long shot but an easy thing to try.

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

I'll try it but I don't have much hope, due to the fact it had been running for months with no problem, and was actually running when my system crashed. I changed no video settings nor drivers before or after the crash. I suspect something in the registry got corrupted and isn't removed during an uninstall. But it can't hurt to try and might help.

I have been considering purchasing DELORME GPS PC Laptop STREET ATLAS 06 to install on my new laptop. What are your thoughts and is this the best option. I also have City Select and I have been told i can use it on my laptop to do some of the same things. What are you thoughts.

As I understand it. Technically you can use City Select maps on your laptop when you have your GPS hooked to it to keep track where you are and display a large version of the map. However you can't use Mapsource to do it. As you know Mapsource will send maps, waypoints, tracks, route to and from the GPS. Pervious versions would use a GPS hooked up to show where you are and display routes. But for some strange reason Garmin removed this function from Mapsource and put it in a new program nRoute. The good news is that nRoute is a free download. So you have to install it to get a laptop to display your location on your City Select Maps. Since I don't have a laptop I haven't used it so I don't know how good it is.

Thanks Allen this is good information. I guess I will try the nroute with my GPS. I still think Delorme with a laptop GPS may be the way I need to go.

Rick, you can do it with what you have, if you already have Delorme. Save your pennies, you don't have to buy their GPS. You can use your 60 and just hook it up to your laptop in the car.

One note: You can straight-attach your Rino via it's serial cable. For the 60CS to work correctly, I use Franson GPSGate to "convert" the 60's USB connection to a "serial" connection. Supposedly it's soemthing Delorme is "looking at" for the next version, according to their forums.

Regardless, using the Rino or the 60 isn't that difficult. I can show you on my Thinkpad if you like..

Thanks Jason,

I am going to try both Delorme and nRoute with my GPS. Tried nRoute a little today and its funny to hear it talk to you.

I've ordered a copy of 6.0 so I guess I'll be seeing what's new with it and if it's worth it.

If it works out OK, I'll have my 5.0 version up for sale. It's the DVD version that has the entire US on one disk. No disk swappage necessary when planning trips or day dreaming.
