I don't have GSAK or Mapsource with me at work. But the Arc/Poly section of a filter wants sets of coordinates. Which you can enter by hand or have GSAK get from the various file formats it understands. It appears that when Tarvol has GSAK open the Mapsource file, instead of getting coordinates it gets "MsRcf". Which it considers invalid.

I suspect that you didn't have mapsource save the file as .MPS file. Newer versions of Mapsource tend to save files as .gdb format which GSAK doesn't understand. I think it is in the "Save As" selection where you can tell it to save the files as .MPS.

Thanks Allen and Cymbaline, I'll try that. I think that it was a .gdb file.

It works. Thanks again Allen and Cymbaline. I would have still been looking for the corkscrew on the knife. I just need to practice a little with it now to get comfortable with filtering down to just what I really want.

Here's a technique I use for WPs near a route:

a) export wpts to Mapsource
b) select a reasonable number bear the route from the map
c) Set the user flag in GSAK for the selected waypoints
d) In the arc/poly filter screen, click the 'Add user flagged' button
e) set the distance and click 'Go'

In MapPoint, you can use the Find feature and select Distance from Point or Route.
Selecting the route will give you all the waypoints near that route.
Not sure if S&T will do this.

There was talk of a GSAK class for the locals at a GGA meeting a while back. Here's one in action. I Wanna Learn GSAK! Maybe we could have one here too sometime?

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

MariettaGecko and KennethPruett led a GSAK meeting earlier this year at one of the southside meetings.

Part of the problem with GSAK is that there is *SO MUCH* that you can do with it, it really takes a while to show everything - and even then you miss something.

I use the heck out of it, but for non-techy types it might get kinda boring real quick.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that if there's enough interest that I'd be willing to do a combination beginner/intermediate/advanced class - but *not* at a meeting. Would have to be a seperate time/event/whatever.

Earlier this year we attended a GSAK meeting via NEFGA (Jax, FL). It was very informitive. We love GSAK, although we don't know everything about GSAK. It's not that there is much to know, but that there is much you can do with it.

If there are questions as to how to set up your meeting, NEFGA held their meeting at a local library which provided wireless internet capabilities (as most do) and many surge protectors (you may want to bring an extenion cord). Afterwards everyone went to find the micro that was 500 feet away. For more questions you can contact Icecream Man or almost any member of the NEFGA.

One thing in particular is adding a google map in the preview, or 'split screen'. At the meeting the other day I showed how that could be done with a macro...one version earlier. Today there's the newer 7.2 version that does this with out messing with a macro.

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.

This may not be the largest number of features added to a version of GSAK but it has had the most extensive "under the hood" changes. These changes have become necessary as GSAK has evolved, and should help future development of GSAK. To reflect the gravity of these changes, the new Beta has been bumped up to version 7.5

7.5 Beta

I'm setting a mfilter in GSAK for caches that I need to complete Georgia's Well Rounded Cacher. I have the difficulty and terrain figured out, but need the term for "PlacedDate" to be older than 05/01/2008. I need a push. This is what I have so far and just need the date term. $d_Difficulty > 3.5 and $d_Terrain > 3.5 and $d_PlacedDate < ?
