Geocacher |
We've almost made it to the half-century mark (in less than a year of geocaching)!
Now we are ready to upgrade our gps from a Garmin Geko 101 to something a bit better. Any ideas? We'd like to stick to a budget of $200 - $250. Thanks... |

I really like my GPS76, which was selling for about $220 a couple of years ago, which included the serial data cord. It has everything except mapping, and will hold a sat. lock even under heavy tree cover. I especially like the large high-res display.

. . . without a cache. |
Bass Pro Shops has a Garmin eTrex Legend on sale right now for $169.99 (after rebate.)
Seems like a reasonable price and a decent GPSr. --------------------- Live Well, Harm None |

Yall've got a ton of options to play with, Y & J, if you're in the $200-250 ballpark.
You could do anything from an eTrex legend to a Rino 120 to a Vista to a number of other units from Garmin. I don't know Maggies, so those folx need to speak up. Depending on what you're looking for, keep in mind the cost of additional software and whether or not the datacable is included (key!). I assisted AtlantaGal with uploading the metro-Atlanta Garmin maps (used about 2.2MB of her avail 8MB on her legend) - too cool! But that's another $50 or so. What sort of features/functions are you looking for? I'd recommend looking at garmin/magellean's models first after you decide what features are a "must have" vs. "nice to have". If you're looking for auto-nav features ("Turn right on XYZ Road") like the Garmin V and GPSMap 60C/CS... I suspect that your budget might be a little below their price range - that's my problem right now. |

After finding 496 cacheses, we have upgraded from Geko 101 to Garmin etrex Vista. It was on sale for $299 + we had a $60 off coupon + a $30 rebate. Now, we have to buy the software. Anyone know where we can buy MapSource on sale? Thanks for your patience, especially Trailerman, helping us find the right gps for us. yjjohnston |
