Andymand turned me on to this....nice...

Garmin 60 Series

.....snip....

For hundreds of thousands of GPS users, geocaching* is a fun outdoor activity. Garmin’s 60 Series provides intuitive pages to aid geocachers in the pursuit of their "quarry." After a cache is found, these units will automatically apply a date stamp, log it in the Outdoor Calendar, and point the user to the next closest cache.

....snip......

There had been considerable buzz about this on the Groundspeak forums, back before the crash. A picture and some sketchy info on these new units had been accidentally posted to a Garmin web site, then quickly removed. A few folks captured it in between.

It's nice to know the details now, and the geocaching-related features sure look interesting. I will be ordering one of these, probably the very moment it becomes available! Smile

Those look sweet as @#$@#. I especially like the antenna. Looks very familiar. Nods

Now if they add a second antenna and make a CSR model I'd be hooked. (R for Rino, donchaknow) Sneaky

Garmin information page, show several cool features.
  1. 56 MB of internal memory for storing map detail
  2. Special geocaching navigation mode
  3. 30 hours of battery life under typical-use conditions (uses two "AA" batteries)
  4. Fast map transfer, with support for both USB and serial port interfaces
But I like the GPS II/III/V configuration, where I can have it on my dash then pick it up and put it in my pocket. Also the removable antenna can be useful. I wish they would make a GPS VI with the GPSMAP 60 features but a case like my GPS V.

From the Mobile Mag Page I saw this:
quote:
• Antenna: Quad-helix with external antenna capabilities

The Garmin Spec Page doesn't mention it.
One can only hope.

- 1000 wpts and 1000 comments! Thumbs Up
- USB! Thumbs Up

I'm (literally!) rolling my quarters.

Let's just hope that the Garmin programmers don't pick up the Magellan programmers' nasty habit of breaking features with each firmware update*... Wink

My (backup GPSr) Geko 201 has a clunky (and, for me, annoying) spin-control for entering digits/letters in the field.

May I assume that the full-size (i.e., larger than a pair of Twix bars) Garmin GPSrs use a hunt-and-click (or some other non-spin control) method for selecting and entering letters and the up/down pad for entering digits?

If the 60 uses a spin-control, I think that would be my only negative with it. YMMV, of course.

A magellan yahoo group subscriber reminded me that I should beware the greener-grass syndrome. True, that. However, Garmin's grass currently appears to have fewer dog turds. Wink

I've been on vacation with no 'puter access, so sorry for the delay in response.

What I ment by "second antenna" is to add an FRS antenna, a la the Rino 110/120.
