It seems a few folks are getting the new eXplorist 500/600 units.

I've been anxious to see/hear more about the geocaching manager they talk about for use with these units.
Seems the PC side is similar to GSAK. I don't have any screenshots as the ones show were in DOC format. Not much to see. Like I said, a way watered down version of GSAK.

Still very few images of geocaches on the unit itself.
It doesn't appear you can view much details of a cache, but you get the basics.
Here is a shot:

Might work great for simple caches, but will be worthless for anything that requires you to see the short/long description (access to that may be there, but I'm still looking for someone to post anything that shows it).
If the details are not shown, then I'll be let down.
You can't dump your PDA if they left it out.

Anyways, if anyone finds out more useful info, please post it here.
The groundspeak threads are overwhelming with too many posts.
What I'd like to see here is info on the geocaching manager and showing geocaches in the unit, including the transfer to/from the unit.

The groundspeak threads I found being updated are here:
eXplorist 500, got one
So Where Are The Explorists 500 And 600??

Oh...and if anyone has some dough to spend, Harmony Computers has the 500 for $279.

Got my hands on an online manual (PDF).
Not much in there about the geocache items.

Kinda neat the way they let you create folders for organizing your POIs/tracks/etc.

Also they mention POIs and tracks are in ASCII, which is probably just an updated version of their Magellan file format.
That is good news as that means that it should be easier for programmers like Robert Lipe to get the new format into GPSBabel (and Clyde into GSAK).

hello. i stumbled upon your posts on the geocache software included on my 500 and thought i would ask you a question. how do i work this thing? i downloaded cahces from geocahce.com, saved them through the software to my gps. everything looked good, caches even showed up through explorer looking at the gps as drive E:, but nothing on my gps, not internal memory or sd card. manual is not helpfull. can you shed some light on the process of transferring caches to the gps?

thanks, tr

theriddler,

Well I don't have an eXplorist and I don't know of any GGA'rs that have a 500/600.
I've thought about getting one and was just providing a little info for anyone interested.

There are alot of people who have them on the groundspeak forums, so I'd try asking there.
