I see that Clyde has come out with a new upgrade and has changed his policy that he is now charging for them. Has anyone (who understands the upgrade...not me) had a chance to take a look and see if they think it it worth it? There are still umpteen different features on the prior version that I don't understand and don't use.

I was just wondering the same thing.
I think one feature that would be useful is the project a waypoint. I have seen some puzzles that you have to do this for. As for the rest of the updates I did not see anything that jumped out at me as something I would just have to have. We probably will update sometime in the future and pay. But maybe not right now. I think we need to find a GSAK guru and have some intensive GSAK trainings events. I know it does a whole lot more than what I currently use it for. |

. . . without a cache. |
I was disappointed about the charge for upgrade but understand it as GSAK is such a complex and popular program. The version I have now does everything I want it to.
Most GPSRs have built in functionality to do waypoint projections. I use a free Palm program to do it, for me it's easier to use. Navigate It would be cool to have some classes in GSAK in the future. --------------------- Live Well, Harm None |

We bought GSAK recently, so there's no charge for upgrade, but either way, at $20 or $25 total, it is a heckuva deal! (Coming from one who's in the software field and relates to Clyde's need to pay the bills...)
We haven't put v7 fully through its paces yet, but we will do so and offer observations soon. Yes, GSAK classes are a good idea and we would be glad to help! (Linux, XP and OS-X are all spoken in the Bear-Cat computer-den!) TBC All who wander are not lost; we have our GPS! |

I would love to see classes in GSAK ! We did the same thing in my Woodworking club for a CAD program.
Look forward to it. drperp I may be wrong, but I'm not far from it ! |

I've been using the beta of V7 for a while now, and it's pretty good. Lots of new features that I haven't even explored yet.
Here's the thing, though. If you've registered in the past, you *should* be ok for this version. If you *donated* in the past as well, then you won't have to pay anything. All registered users should have gotten a note about it breaking down the details. As far as a class, I believe Rebel is trying to set one up for the southside sometime soon. In addition, I'll be doing a Paperless/GSAK general presentation at the June meeting. Also.. Joebids and I have talked about hosting some "Paperless Caching 201/Advanced" classes/events in the near future as well. We'll be concentrating heavily on GSAK - using filters, macros, multiple exports, using external batch files, etc - but will probably touch on some other features as well, such as GoogleEarth and Delorme. As a forewarning, this "Advanced" class will be "heavy geek content," which is why we're going to do it independent of a GGA meeting. Edit: TBC, I'm going to recruit you for pitching in/helping with OSX; I'm "ok" with the OS, but not with "best practices/what's available" on that platform. I'm cool with linux. |
