Hi, I have decided for my High School International Baccaleaureate Math Project that I would write a report on the principles of GPS. Of course, some GPS systems are better than others for this function. Some criteria i have made for the best reciever would be labelling of which satellites are used (I have a satellite finding program that uses TLEs), good long/lat accuracy, altitude (If I need to make more page-fillers) and... well... i'm really not sure.
What i'm hoping to do is find the exact point of the satellites (any four or three if I don't know which ones i'm using) and use that data for a particular time to find my exact position (hopefully I will use the data like the real gps system, just without the speedy calculations) and compare it with a predetermined long/lat.
One problem I may face is that I will not know the exact time for the satellite, but maybe I could calculate that with einstein and say that his stipulations are assumed to be true. Please help me out, THANK YOU

I will help you. I am a professional land surveyor who uses survey grade gps systems and also am a geocacher. Your subject may be a little broad, but I may be able to give you enough information to narrow your scope somewhat. Most hand held gps units with waas are about equal in accuracy. If you will email me I will try to help you out. If you are concerned about accuracy, begin your search by looking up and reading through "GPS dilution of precision", PDOP, HDOP, VDOP.
