Saw this on engadget.
Garmins making color Rinos and upping the radio power to 5 watts for 12 miles of radio communication.
There are two version 530 w/ compass, and NOAA. And the 520 sans compass and NOAA.
Only problem I see is:

AND...to legally operate the transmitter side (GMRS) requires a license good for 5 years at an additional $80.
