I am looking to turn my lap top into a Gps & I am not sure which receivers work best. Stand alone antennas which I understand most need some software. This may already be covered but I could not find it. Any Help is appreciated.

I am partial to the DeLorme Street Atlas products.
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 is a popular among some folks.

Both the DeLorme and Microsoft are available with or without a GPS.

I have never used it but Garmin makes 2 laptop products.

A good source of info would be Laptop GPS World

I have both software programs. I prefer the Streets and Trips. Only $29.00 for Streets and Trips. Plug in your GPS, load up your waypoints and off you go. I use it in the GeoBus all the time and once in awhile in the car.Works great and is simple to use.

It's a matter of degrees

I am a Streets and Trips person too. The maps I generate for my web page are done with it. It is easy to use. Using GPSBabel, you can import waypoints directly into the program to boot. I have instructions at the bottom of this page.

There are lots to use. I have used Delorme Street Atlas for years and the 2009 version allows you to drag and drop a .gpx file onto the map and it'll create the waypoints on the map. These waypoints are in layers too. So you can show/hide those waypoints separate from other waypoints.

It'll hook up to your GPSr and you'll always know where your at plus it has 'radar' that'll look for exits, food, etc ahead of you as you travel.

Don't say you can't, say you'll try.
