We are upgrading Spring 2008 to this. I bought a DeLorme PN 20 (see info under that post in this forum) last month and just sent it back. Nothing beats a Garmin and we're sure this GPS will have more to offer than our 76csx.

Those only work with the USB Garmins and with the latest Mac OSX Tiger (10.4) - of which I have neither. They are not backwards compatible, and I am not upwardly financially inclined.

One other cool thing mentioned by apersson850, is that to load a geocaching GPX, you just hook the colorado to a usb port and copy the gpx to it. The unit will have everything, coords, description, terrain, difficulty, logs hints all available to see on the unit.

One bad thing is that it doesn't show the geocaches like other waypoints. So while driving along you can't see the geocaches for a "oh a geocache is close, let's go get it".

I haven't seen it but based on Timpat post answered by apersson850 and the screen images. It looks like when you put it into geocaching mode, you tell it which geocache you are after and then it shows it on the map and you can get to all the information you loaded via GPX about that one geocache. However when you are in driving mode, all the normal waypoints show, but not any geocaches loaded via GPX. Apparently you can ask it to show the names or maybe GC number of geocaches near you then when you pick one, it shows, then you can pick another then it shows but not the first one. So as I said you are driving down the road, the colorado will not show the geocaches you go by.

Thanks! I think I could deal with that. I wouldn't mind asking for nearby caches. I don't do many park and grabs anyhow!

Allen, this makes me want to ask another question. Does this imply that only one geocache will show on the map at one time - that once you pick the second one, the first one goes away?

Like I said, I haven't actually seen one, just the posts I linked above and the pictures I linked above, but that is the way I read it. When the colorado isn't in geocaching mode, none show, when it is in geocaching mode one shows.

Keep posted to the Garmin blog for some announcements about what new Mac-compatible software and hardware Garmin will be showing at our booth in the Moscone Center next week.

Let's just say that we have a new software product codenamed "Bobcat" that we will be showing and I think you're going to like it.

More information on colorado's geocache mode by apersson850
quote:
As it is now, the Colorado can't show a map overview of the nearby (or any other) caches. You can only search for caches, near where you are, or near something else, and get a list of them. When you then view that particular cache you choose on the map, it always has the same blu map pin icon.
However, above that map, there's a short description of the cache, and there it will have the conventional icons representing a common cache, a multi or whatever it is. My screenshots describe this with fewer words.
