I understand from Garmin's FAQ's that the largest card this unit will take is a 2GB card. Also, there are some issues with the SanDisk Ultra II cards.

Those of you that have a 60Cx or 60CSx, what are some of the larger microSD cards that you are using? (Size & Mfg/Model) Also, have you run into any problems or gotchas with these particular models?

Thanks!

I use a 1 gig Sandisk card. Not sure what make it is. It runs great in my 60CSx. So far (knocks on wood), it has given no problems. I have all of the southeast, most of the northeast from Boston to Washington DC, Washington state, Utah, Colorado southern CA, AZ, the southern half of NV and most major cities in the GPS. In terms of accessing the information, it does great. Sometimes the information isn't exactly right, but that has only happened a couple of times so far (doing an address search with turn by turn directions, though I saw some nice countryside over by Mt. Rainier. Big Grin

I have the same card as Mtn-Man in my 60Csx. Same report. No problems. I do recommend that you use the card reader method to upload your maps.

I am using a Kingston Tech. 1G card in my 60CSX and it has worked like a charm and for $20 shipped....

Is $20 a good price for the 1G card? hehehe

ok i have an opening to talk about this model level. I have the GPSMap 60c and was wondering what the expandable memory offers on the models you own. I know that I can put the maps on there but will I also be able to add more cache locations to the external memory or not?

For one thing the X-Series has the new chipset which makes it alot more accurate especially in heavy cover. The extra memory is only for maps, I have the detailed street maps for most of the eastern U.S. on my GPS plus it will route me to any of the 1000 caches I can upload to it!
The 60CSX is the ONLY way to go!

My 60CSx is new (Christmas present from my lovely, generous wife!) but as I understand it you can add cache info to the external card, but only if it's loaded as a POI. On the up side you get to load as many as your card can hold, plus lots more characters for comments (such as description or hints). On the down side all that stuff on the external card gets the same icon & you can't use the 'found it, go to next' feature.
Those of you who've been using your CSx's longer can correct me where I'm wrong.

That is correct, you can load caches as POI's to the microcard but it is just like you say, you lose the Geocaching friendly features of the CSX. But why would you want to do that considering the internal memory holds 1000 caches without messing around with uploading POI's to the card. Like I said, with the 1gig card I have detailed routable maps from Texas to Florida to Maine to Wisconsin and all points in between along with any 1000 caches I choose to upload to the unit! What more could you need?
For those interested in the POI uploader go here....

Question for 60 users:

I have a 76c which I load with maps from Mapsource. The GPS will calulate routes only on the basemap, not any downloaded detail maps.

Not only that, it will ignore a route calculated by Mapsource on the PC and try to route to the destination via basemaps.

So my questions are:

1) Is the routing issue a problem with Mapsource rather than the GPS (i.e., will it route with a different set of detail maps)?

2) Can I assume that some model(s) of the 60 series will route with the Mapsource detail maps?

My 60 CS will not route with the basemap but does route with the detailed maps downloaded. Just a note when you do have the detailed maps loaded and go out of that area the GPS does not map correctly. Something you may need to check is when you download your maps there is a check box for routing information.

KVOM...
What version of mapsource are you using?

I may actually have the answer to this dilema...but need to know the above before even venturing an answer.

Here is what happened to me...I for years hated my gps v, it wouldn't route me to where I wanted to go, it was way off on everything. when I sold the Gps I refused to sell a piece of junk so I called garmin to get the bottom of things. Seems like I had been trying to upload an earlier version of mapsource than I thought. When I originally bought mapsource it was version 4. I then purchased the upgrade last year hoping to fix the problem...Allen said it would, but when I ran the upgrade, I still had the same problems.

After an entire weekend of emails and then several phone calls...It was discovered that I yes I was an idiot (remember this part for later). I just expected version 7 (the upgrade) to be what I was using...but it wasn't. I was still using 4. I needed to go to the menu bar - then to view- then to switch to product. There I needed to choose version 7.

Once i did that all worked including the mapping and auto route.

I wrote an email to Garmin declaring that I wasn't an Idiot and saying that I would be happy to sing a song about me being an idiot and dance about the room if I was...Which I had to do later.

I am known to all at garmin as the Idiot girl.

If you call garmin and ask about me...and they talk to you about it, remind them to send me a T-Shirt.

You may want to make sure that you have done any updates that need to be done. Thats what allen told me to do. That's how I got into the above mess.
