We have a backup gps (geko 101) that doesn't seem to be working. When we turn it on (with new batteries) the entire screen is black.

Any ideas on what could be wrong with it? Should we try and get it repaired?

Our normal gps is in my other car which is being repaired at Gwinnett Place Honda.

Is there a contrast setting/control that maybe got turned up as the previous batteries went dead and you now just need to turn it down? Back in the ole college days the TI-##'s had this feature...

Yep, Snake has a good point. Had that happen to my Garmin. All black screen. All it needed was to adjust the contrast which you do by holding one of the buttons down when you turn it on. Can not recall which one. Just look in your manual,it should have that information

It's a matter of degrees

I held down the "down arrow" button and turned on the gps. It worked... Now I can go geocaching using my good ole' geko 101.

Thanks bunches Snake1411 & Trez!
