I can see from this forum thread what it is and that it is starting to become available to allow basic cache page search functionality from a cell phone.
What do I gotta do to get this? My cell phone will send and recieve e-mail, though I've never bothered to use that feature. Is that enough, or do I need more?
WAP Wireless Application Protocol, standard for accessing the internet with wireless devices, e.g. mobile phones.
This is not the same as EMail, all phones do not support it. Since I have Nokia I found the Nokia Page on WAP. There is a list of all their phone that support WAP. I am sure phones manufactured by other companies support it as well. However there are phones that have "regular" browsers in them and can access regular web pages. But WAP pages tend to be small so they are easier to use on small screens like phones have.

T-Mobile offers free internet on all their WAP-enabled phones on all plans. I got a new nokia a couple months ago when I renewed and www.geocaching.com/wap has been very helpful. You can search by Zip, Coords, and GCxxxx. Only bad thing is that it doesn't show any logs. But I read on the boards that Jeremy is working on that.

I had been thinking about this, and the only thing I can think of that would make me want to be able to use WAP would be the ability to post a log(perhaps brief) from the field...
Maybe I just need to get some sort of wireless internet for my laptop for that...

I recently started taking my laptop in my truck for mapping when doing lots of urban caches and such. I remember someone saying that one of the cellular service vendors works with a cable and doesn't add additional cost, just your standard airtime....anybody know about this????
