It's not the kill......It's the thrill of the hunt.

While clearing some mail out, I found this from one of my photography groups and thought some nature lovers would like them.

My it's getting close!

Wow! Those are some great pictures. I can't imagine having the presence of mind to get that owl shot.

Now if I saw that owl coming at me my first instinct would be to get out of the way, not take a picture. But then again Im not a photographer Smile

It was taken with a telephoto lens, so it wasn't probably as close as it looks.
Still, nerves of steel to wait for the shot.

Right place, right time, guts to wait for the camera to adjust, and the presence of mind to catch it in the first place. That had to be strange, look through the camera and see those eyes looking back like that. Scroll down the page, there are several shots that are those "Perfect" catches that just don't happen in the real world. Again, right place, right time.

There were some great shots on that page. I spooked a large owl one time while running down a trail near Helen. I think it scared me more than I scared it. It actually flew downhill down the trail I was going down, so I followed it for about 100 yards while still running.

Try spooking a group of about 10 wild turkeys on for size!! Eek
They were hiding in some high weeds right next to trail I was walking down years ago. I just happen to let loose with a great big sneeze as I got beside them and it scared them is all I can figure.
ALL of them started flapping their wings at the same time trying to take off to get away.

Talk about turning the tables!!
I nearly messed my drawers it scared me so bad!

I didn't know what the heck was coming up around me! It sounded like a helicopter taking off!! Help

When I was in college, I scouted cotton around the state during the summers. It would only take a covey of quail getting up on the next row in neck high cotton to make me fly. They always sounded like a rattlesnake when the got up that close to you.
