I really wish they'd stop inviting the jet-powered redneckmobile, though! Those guys were rude ... driving their support rig down the taxiway honking the air horn, taking attention away from performers overhead. If it doesn't leave the ground, it doesn't belong at an airshow ... there are plenty of state fairs and drag strips for those guys to go to!

I took a few shots but haven't unloaded them from the camera yet. Will post a few when I do, if they came out well.

Nice to see an airshow without getting sunburned, for once! Smile

Scott

Cool pictures. Looks like it was a successful event.

I've got some pictures from the Robbins AFB show that I went to on Saturday. I hope to post them up this evening. Check back.

I took a lot of pictures. It was hard to narrow it down, so I hope these thirteen aren't too many. I apologize to those who are on dial-up (I feel your pain.) Roll Eyes

In 2000 I had the privilege of accompanying our son on a "Tiger Cruise" on the USS Eisenhower coming back from a 6-month tour in the Persian Gulf. I boarded in Jacksonville and sailed with them overnight to Norfolk, VA. The Navy put on an airshow for the +1,000 civilians on board from the deck of the carrier. It was awesome to have the jet fighters launched from the catapult with afterburners just 30-40 feet away! Some things they did (being out to sea) that they wouldn't do over land was do 3 or 4 Mach 1+ passes over the ship that blasted our ear drums. They also did some live ammo strafing runs at targets and dropped some 500# bombs, all at a safe distance of 2 miles. Wished I had a video camera, but all I had was a 35mm. That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience on board a nuclear air craft carrier, and am glad I had a chance to do it

You're right about that. I got to go out on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) twice ... once on what they called a "dependents' day" cruise just after the ship was commissioned, and again for a "Tiger Cruise" like yours, from Fort Lauderdale to Norfolk. The airshows and other events were some of the most incredible things I've seen in my life ... not to mention simply being able to watch aircraft launch and recover while you're standing on the deck! (Loudest place I've ever been, for sure.)

And I wasn't even aware the Navy did anything like that until our son invited me while he was still cruising the Gulf. The only disappointment was the food (Blurp!) They did steak and crab legs one night, but when you're cooking for 4500...
Not too appealing! And they didn't recover with people on the decks. You could watch from the "catwalks" on the island/tower, but hardly enough room for the amount of people there were. You are right. One incredible experience.
