While hunting down a nearby virtual that's been on my list for awhile, AtlantaGal was kind enough to snap some pictures of fire vehicles for a locationless cache for me. The employee out front was nice enough to to say "Go ahead, take all you want, walk on through." So we did. The pic of the foam truck was taken within sight of one of Hartsfields' operating runways at the time. Felt sorta weird being that close to the action, but the view was amazing.

I have parked in front of that fire station many times. If you walk a few hundred feet west, you'll see a few small shade trees right along the airport fence. I've been known to set up a lawn chair there in the shade and watch the big boys land, eavesdropping on the tower and approach freqs with my HT. Of course, it needs to be a day when the airport's in west operations (using runways 26L/R and 27L/R.)

Another neat spot for plane-watching, if you're into that sort of thing, is the top level of the south parking garage. It'll cost you $1/hour but the view of the south runways and taxiways is spectacular. This spot is best with the airport in east operations (8L/R, 9L/R).
