Check out the snake that seldom_seen came across while hunting for Terpsichorean Men. That is one BIG snake. Can you imagine standing next to that tree, then turning to see that big sucker staring back at you? There would have been a little drawers cleaning going on, after I stopped running of course.

Kinda looks like an Eastern/Black Kingsnake ( Lampropeltis getula ) to me. If it is, they feed on other snakes, including venomous ones), so it's a GOOD snake.
I thought they'd be hibernating this time of year, though, not hanging around scaring people. ~erik~ |

. . . without a cache. |
Looks like a Black Rat Snake. Harmless unless you're a small furry critter or bird in the nest. They love to climb trees. Probably out getting warm in the sun, it's not quite time for full hibernation.

Well I looked at my handy dandy Snakes of Georgia & South Carolina I got at the first snake show. It says the Rat Snake has a black body with some white areas between the scales. Adults attain lengths up to 7 feet and are very good climbers.

A rat snake isn't anything to worry about. Now Robert and run across a rattle snake once.

I think that at the juncture immediately after - to paraphrase Yoyo - drawer detrimentation occured , my normal thoughts of "find a garden hoe" would have been replaced by "find a backhoe." Posthaste, quickly, and yesterday.
That's a big honkin' snake! |

I ran across...well I didn't run across it, but I did help it off the road at Berry College's Old Mill. I guess I should have used a faster shutter speed because he was a whippin around. PEZ, wanna go back with me to fetch him?
Don't say you can't, say you'll try. |

OH MY GOD! I hope this doesn't ruin geocaching for me! I would never set foot in the bush again if I saw something like that. I have ventured off the beaten path some because I thought all these dangerous creatures were sleeping. But this dreadful serpent wasn't! I will stick to searching in nice little parks that are safe.
