The Forum is acting weird tonight; hope this posts complete with the link! Interesting although not altogether positive article on geocaching in last Sunday's Chattanooga Times/FreePress:

Thanks for the link, which worked when I did a copy/paste. Yeah, the article does seem to focus on the police finding geocachers skulking about, rather than the normal and more positive image we'd like to portray. Oh well, at least they did get some of it right.

A typical piece of "news reporting" ... not exactly untrue ... just slanted to give the impression the "reporter" wants the reader to have. In this case, the message is that geocaching is a problem for police and dangerous for those who participate. I have done close to 700 geocaches and have met only two law enforcement officers while geocaching. The guy in the article is doing something seriously wrong ... or else the whole thing is bovine manure.

One should expect questioning by the local constabulary if one insists on doing parking lot caches in the wee hours of the morning as opposed to caching in rough, swampy, hilly, bug infested terrain where the doughnut munchers and "for your protection" authorities dare not venture.

We ran into a cop while doing a Valdosta area cache on the way to GW3. Cym showed him the ammocan, his GPS and gave him a brief description of geocaching. He was fine with it.
