Beware the Thorns!

Although I do enjoy my job, a lot of times my schedule of working overnight and traveling a lot means I get very little caching done. Then there are the exceptions that make up for it Smile

For the past two weeks I've been in Phoenix, AZ - 110* or better and rainy (it's thier monsoon season) which did not make me want to get out of the hotel room during the day. Then the weekend came and I got to go visit the Grand Canyon for the first time. Words and photographs can not describe the wonder and awe it instills in people. Those that have been know what I mean and those that haven't won't until they go.

I did, however, manage to take the odd pic or two when I wasn't standing awestruck. For those that have been and done the cache "Mary E. J. Colter built it" (GC219C) these are from nearby Navajo Overlook.

I find it hard to believe you passed up coming back to Georgia for the Snake GGA Meeting just to see some hole in the ground Big Grin

Kidding of course, your pics make me want to go back to the Grand C again. Thanks for posting them.

If at first you do succeed, try not to look surprised!

Nice Pix Thorny. My wife and I were there for 10 days in Feb. I was able to cache in Mesa, Phoenix, Scotsdale, Sedona and Grand Canyon. Some of the prettiest caches I've found. You're right about the canyon. We road the train up there and spent the night. You really can't believe it's scope and magnificence until you stand on one of those ledges.
Missed meeting you at the GGA meeting. Thanks for bringing back good memories. BTW, it was hot in Feb. too.

I may be wrong, but I'm not far from it !

Uh, I was actually in town and had plans to be at the Snake Show - I laid down to take a nap after the Flash Mob event Saturday morning and didn't wake up until after it was over. Considering the Snake Show was less then 4 miles from the house and I wanted to be there maybe I need to change my geonick to Thorny Van Winkle yawnnn

It was hot but cooler at the canyon then in Phoenix by about 15 degrees or so, Allen. Of course, at those temps that's not saying too much Smile

Tarvol, the funny thing to me is normally I wouldn't get that close to the edge - I had problems at the edge of Little River Canyon in AL doing the earthcache there and this was 10x as high. I think the beauty and majesty took care of the fear of heights and vertigo for me.

Thanks, DrPerp - I saved the train ride for when we get to go back as a family. Here's a pic from Flagstaff on Sunday morning about 6am. These little fellers were in a front yard feeding when I first saw them Big Grin
