My wife is huge in the Star Wars Galaxies game. I have only played a little bit, but I am into Myst and URU more myself. URULive is about to come back.
I have actually met someone in the online part of UntilURU and had known them as a player for a while when I saw their avatar in the Groundspeak Forums. It was a portion of the screenshot from the game, a small icon that any Myst/URU player would recognize. I PM'd her in the forums and told her who I was and it was an instant click. It is funny to chat about the game and about the game (both geocaching and Myst/URU are games!) while in the Until URU game. Our nicknames are slightly different in each game, so it was funny when the light bulb went off and I made the connection. I have even converted one person to geocaching as they heard me describe what we do.
Funny stuff.

I've played Uru, but I didn't know you could still play online? I've never heard of UntilURU. I was very upset when I bought it (long time back) and could not get into URU live becaues it had already shut down then. I could probably get into that, too.
I had two friends into SWG before an update to the Jedi path turned them off. I didn't understand it, but it made them give away all their "lewt" and stop playing. Guild Wars is a lot easier for me to understand.
Man, my wife would be mad too if she gave up all her goodies. She is some major Jedi Master at this point. She did start a new character recently for fun though. She was like "oh yeah, I can die really easy now).
Right now you cannot get into UntilURU. They sold a limited number of "Kagi Keys". I have three and might let you use one to see what it is like. There is no new content beyond what was called "URU Prime", which was the out of the box original product. They added two expansion packs remember -- "To D'ni" and "The Path of the Shell". Right now we cannot get to those areas added with the expansion packs. Still, it rocks to hang out in the city with people, actual people. UntilURU is being run on several private servers. I used to frequent the Tapestry server, or "shard", but Cyan Worlds has opened their own shard and everyone hangs out there. Occasionally, people from Cyan Worlds go into the game too. We do create activities, and I am part of the Cavern Activity Team (CAT) that creates these events and runs them. I am only a "photographer" though (screenshots). EDIT TO ADD: If you go to www.untiluru.com you will go to a part of my personal web site and you can see parts of the game. The glyph tour part is really neat.
The rebirth of URULive is coming up in the Fall or early winter it sounds like. Right now we are all waiting for that. We are supposed to get new content at that time. You can see more at www.urulive.com
