I occasionally play Halo 2 over Xbox Live and there has been a recent problem with people running a computer program on there computer and some how networking there xbox to there computer that allows the user to see all the IP address of everyone in the game and the user then in turn then selects the ip address from the other team and block them with the firewall (which boots the the player out of the game), there by causing the user and his team to win the game.

My question for those of you that know about networking is how is this possible? From what I under stand these people are using standard Xboxes. And what I dont under stand is how they are networking there Xboxes to there computers?

I tried to use my laptop as a "wireless adapter" for my xbox by connceting to the wireless netowrk and sharing the network with my lan connection and connecting my xbox to that. It has been done and does not work for me. Even though through a program called XBConnect it shows you can. (XBConnect is a tunneling program that let you play online with out playing on Xbox live). Anyways I digress.

How are these people doing this? I ask not to in turn do it myself. I ask because as a beginning IT major, anything networking fascinates me, and Im trying to learn as much as I can.

One last thing, this process is giving the term brigding although I thought brigding was something else.

Well I did a quick Google search to see what I could turn up and gave up after a couple of hits.
I just can't deal with the teen punks who can't spell, are rude to each other, and don't really know what they are doing.

As far as having a PC see the ip addresses, that would not be hard if you were running the right program.
And for booting somebody off, seems that would only happen if their system is hosting the game....or they have some sort of D.O.S. attack against them.

Either way, sounds like what they are doing is questionably legal.

I suggest if you want to learn more about networking that you invest time in reading up on the subject with some books and setting up a home network with some cheap PCs. A CCNA book with a Cisco emulator runs around $25 and will let you make a virtual lab with many routers and even enter console commands.

That was thing some how they force their system to host the game. Legal question yes. Microsoft bans you from Xbox live for Network manipulation. For example they kicked a bunch of people off for pressing the Standby button on there modems.

Yeah I googled it too. Just gibberish.
